Hunting rounds

Alright then. Ill stick with the Partitions.

i just got some of those for my .223 can't wait to try them out, i was thinking about barns tsx but 37 bucks a box (of course the partitions weren't much better)

I think a lot depends on the cartridge you're using.

I wouldn't trust cor lokt in a 300 winmag the same way i might trust it out of a 30-06 in 180 grain. The impact speeds are much different (at usual game-shot ranges of say 100 yards +/-) The higher the impact speed, the more you have to think about the bullet.

Similarly, when one is considering the 30-30 or similar lower velocity rounds, does it really matter so much if you're using 'the good stuff' or 'regular' ammo?

So to answer your question - what the heck kind of gun are you using? :D

I've used core lokt, federal s**t in the grey box

There was a break in between, meaning two types of ammo. But...

The best thing that could happen to remington is to have Federal buy them out, and show them how to make ammo.
I have been using plain old "Remington" Core Lokt for years. Very accurate. I think the one's I bought must be defective. You shoot at a Deer and they fall down. Deer don't seem to like them.

Yeah - but what are you shooting them out of just out of curiosity?

In past tests the Federal economy ammo was crap as far as bullet quality. They really grenade. The remington cor-lokt are actually not too bad, a big step up from the FC stuff IMO.

The green ballistic tips in 30 cal fragment alot even at low velocity. Funny thing tho, the 180gr Ballistic tip in 8mm actually holds up very well at 8x57 velocity. It was likely meant for the 8 Rem Mag tho.

The Accubonds (white tip) work well, Nugget has yet to have one stop inside an animal!

FWIW the budget FC brass is soft as fudge and varies alot more than the RP brass.

FWIW I have been doing some test loads with the 185gr PSP bulk bullets.
Albeit handloads, not factory but I think you're concerned with how they hold up.

When fired into pine blocks at 2800ish, the finished weight was a suprising 151gr! This is pine stumps cut off the bottoms of power poles too. Very dense. And the range was 30 yards, not long range testing.

They didn't hold up like the 200gr Accobond that I put in the same block but considering how much less "technology" there is in them and how affordable they are I certainly wouldn't exclude them from the list. I will use them before a Sierra GK any day.

I realize this isn't meat and bone I am shooting into but had it been FC there wouldn't have been anthing to dig out except gray dust.

Hope this helps,
Noel

Which bullet weight, and how old were the bullets?I have driven the new version of the 180gr .308" ballistic tip at 3340fps and it penetrated both shoulders of a mature elk and retained over 60% of it's weight.
