Hunting scope with turrets/dials?

No you don't. Light transmission and high quality glass is the key to seeing at dusk and dawn. You get this in European scopes more than North American scopes as quite often game in Europe is taken at night.

It sounds like you should be looking at the Swarovski Z6(i) 1.7-10x42 L with optional ballistic turret. Weighs in at 470g and has all the features you're looking for. You can up the magnification and objective diameter, but you're (unnecessarily IMO) adding weight by doing that.
 
If weight is a big concern, there is nothing out there that compares to the weight/features of the vxr 4-12x40. CDS dial, illumination, 30mm tube and only 15 ounces. The 50mm obj version is 16.5 ounces.

I skipp the leupold stuff and went with a Nikon 4-16x42 nikoplex.
Using the nikon SpotOn app , I have all the data needed to dial my turret from 50 to 600 yards in an instant.
I wasn't going to buy Nikon when I found out their ballistic matched turrets couldn't be exported.
BUT, now that I've taken it afield on my 7mm rem mag and put it thru it's paces using the SpotOn app, I'm really happy I bought the Nikon. I think it weighs 18 ounces

For SR, I have used a Leupold 1 1/2-5 with target turrets added. Wouldn't hesitate to use it for hunting.
 
There is NO other way I'd equip a hunting rifle than with a 3-9X40, 3.5-10X40 or 6X42 Leupold 1" tube scope with a target or M1 turret from the leupold custom shop.
 
On my rig, an M77 7mm rem mag, I put a Nikon monarch 3, 4-16x42 nikoplex
Zero'd for 275 yards.
The turrets lift and turn to zero.
Now I just use the top turret to dial up or down for ranges from 50 to 500 yards. Return the dial to zero and it's back at 275.
I was all about the BDC calibrated turrets till I took a serious look at nikon scopes and used the spot on app to get my data for elevation adjustment. Basically nullifies the need for BDC turrets for hunting.
For my rig and bullet and a 275yard zero
50yards -11 clicks
100 yards -13 clicks
150 -10
200 -7
250 -2
300 +2 (from zero)
350 +7
400 +13
450 +19
500 +25

Easy peasy
 
I don't understand people that knock 50 mm scopes. Had a discussion with a young fellow at Cabelas. He was trying to convince me to buy a 40 mm. I told him I wanted it because that is what I wanted. I don't care if it's higher & I don't care if it doesn't transmit more light. I also told him I shot more animals in 45 years than he could ever guess then walked away. If you want 50mm and it's what you like, get it!!!!!
 
^^ I would have bought the monarch 3 4-16x50 but getting rings for my ruger M77 would have taken longer than I was willing to wait so compromised and got the x42. I'm not unhappy with my choice at all. Excellent light transmission to past legal shooting light (1/2 hor before sunrise,1/2hr after sunset here)

My priorities for huntig scopes would be reticle(mildot/milhash) FFP, biggest tube then whatever Obj from 40ish to 56.
Big objective times big tube and good glass/coating equals more hunt time -clarity.
Field of view will be more important than magnification on anything that might move
And mildot/hash means fast holdover /lead when no time to dial plus you can bracket and use reticle dot/hash

50mm objective, target turrets, 15 ounces. Pick any two. Swaro Z3 4X12X50 will get you under 15oz barely, but has no turrets. Lots of Mark 4's, Zeiss, etc. will meet all your requirements....except for weight.

If you want a 50mm because you want a 50mm, that's fine, I won't try to convince you otherwise. Depending on the intended purpose and magnification range, 50mm scopes definitely have their niche. Now, if you want a 50mm objective because you think it's going to do something it's not, then I'm going to disagree and try to explain why you're mistaken. I know lots of guys that have shot dozens of deer over the years. They know absolutely nothing about rifles or scopes. They have their iron sighted Savage 99 and can shoot it. The whole "I've shot X number of deer" means you've hunted for a while, not that you understand optics. The guy at the counter doesn't sound like a particularly good salesman.
