Hunting sling front carry

I have a short barrel Remington 700 LTR that I would like to use for hunting. I would like to carry it in front of me cross body rather than over one shoulder. I would guess the rifle weights 9-10 lbs with glass.
I'm open to any type of sling as long as it can support the weight and allows me to carry the rifle for hours at a time.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have a leather sling, Viper Rifle Sling, I bought at a gun show in southern Ont. back about 20-30 yrs ago. Looks like a regular leather sling, and can be used that way, but when you put it on, the firearm is close to your body, muzzle pointing up. Undo the snap and just bring the firearm up to firing position. Snap undone or not, you can bend over to pick something up without having the firearm move. Slickest thing I ever saw. My brother and I both bought one. Never saw them for sale again. Came with a brochure but I can't find it. Tried Googling it but it just shows some kind of tactical sling. Maybe someone else remembers seeing them or bought one.

My dad also has the viper sling for his rifle. I remember he has had it for about 20+ years. The system works great and I've been looking for one for myself for a few years without success. Wonder if there is another manufacturer out there that makes a similar product...

I found the safari sling lacking. It is floppy, has lots of lose straps every where and I found it was constantly getting caught on branches and such in tight bush. I also found it awkward to lower the barrel to my side to navigate bush/obstacles. So I went with the vickers CAS sling, I had to add QD sockets to my rifle on the side tho.

I wear it just like with an AR, but with the front QD right at the front of the stock. I really like this setup and it works great, the rifle when loose just lays across your chest and out of the way. And you just need to adjust the slider for the tension you want depending on whether you are hiking or sitting in a stand/bush. Give it a try I think you may really like it.

Jaybird, I asked the guy who owns a custom leather shop(makes belts and wallets) about making one and he said bring it in. If you have someone like that near you ask them. Also try a harness maker(ask the horse people), shoe repair shop or get some leather(Tandy Leather or TSC) and make your own. A very simple design that works great!!!

Hmmm.... I have been thinking about this since wearing my rifle across my chest upside down this year & liking the front slung idea.

I think I'll pattern one up & make one the next few days, I was thinking something like this for my Ruger Scout Carbine:

Heres the link on WSS, its 30 bucks, my mistake. I've used it through thick bush with a remington 870 mariner, used it on the same shotgun over the tundra, Used it on my 4570 when I was fly fishing in the Mountains. Never needed to use it in a bear situation, but by quickly removing the snap, it comes right to your shoulder. Its slick. I love it.

I checked out the above link and it looks and as per madluk's description it may be the same as my Viper sling but in nylon instead of leather. It would probably work smoother than the leather version since the leather takes some time to break in. I think I may order one up to try.

Thanks madluk for the link.

Uncle mikes tactical shotgun sling. Designed for front carry. We use them on dogging guns for deer drives. $25 and work pretty good!

I've been using a Boony Packer front carry sling for years. Great way to carry but lacking as a shooting sling. I goofed a shot on a decent WT buck last weekend, got a Ching Sling coming from Galco.

I was looking for the same type of thing and found the best was to make my own. I took two swivel stud attachments and wove para cord lenthways around them then wove side to side all the way up. I love this way of carrying my rifle and its a custom fit. I am a right handed shooter so all i do is point the barrel to my left, upside down and throw the sling over my head. The rifle hangs between my bellybutton and my waist and can be shouldered without taking the rifle or sling off or swinging around.
