Hi,

I want to buy a new rifle for big game hunting and I want also a rifle for precision to shoot in clubs.

I think calibers 7 mm rem mag, .300 wm or .338 lapua mag but this is expensive... 7 mm rem mag is my favorite presently.

I would like to have a heavy barrel and I like stainless barrel. Finally, synthetic stock is good right now.

Do you have any suggestions for me?

Model, caliber, specs, and website link if possible ;)

Thanks! :D

The biggest piece of advice and primary concern is fit and comfort, go and hold and feel and fondle as many as you can.

Forget about looking on the net, go to the shops and see what is out there for your own eyes you may think differently about your options once you feel and see the product.

What do you own/shoot presently?

Those chamberings may not be the best for target/precision shooting based upon what options the rifle has.

Also, don't get caught up on something that says MAGNUM, a guy shooting a 300WM with a flinch with get out shot by a guy with a .308 without a flinch every single time. ;)

You're gonna be kicking yourself in the field after lugging around a HB target gun all day. I did that one season with a Winchester Stealth....it sucks and getting a standing shot was next to impossible due to weight.

Have a look at the savage model 12 VLP in 300 WSM....heavy stainless fluted barrel, laminate stock, accu-trigger.

I tried to copy and paste a pic but it wouldn't work.

Was in a similar boat as you looking for my first centerfire. Wanted one to do it all. Then a friend decided to sell a heavy target rifle so I picked it up. I thought it was a steal and coming from a friend I knew it was in good shape.

Like many things in life, specialization is the name of the game. My Ruger Mk 2 Target is an awesome gun on thr range. Not the kind of weight one would carry on a hunting trip where one or two cold shots is all that matters.

Just ordered a Winchester Model 70 FW in 30-06 as a hunting gun.

This way you have two rifles designed for what you are using them each for. You can put on a nice 36x Sightron for the target rifle from Mystic and a good 3x-9x for hunting.

I'm making some assumptions of course here but chances are a single rifle is always going to be a compromise. I think you ca. Get what you are looking for in a 2K or so budget so long as you pick up one of the two rifles / scopes used.

I'm sure folks can help here, but this might be better asked in the Sporting Rifles section of the forum. Lots of knowledgable folks. Also, giving a price range helps.

I believe he is in the right section.

As mentioned, go shoulder a few and see what "FITS" you best, the heavy barrel lugging around for a hunting rifle will get tiresome in a day. I would say Tikka for sure, Sako m75 or an m85 if you can afford it. A Savage Axis might be another option...good shooters just a sloppy action IMO.

I seen earlier Ellwood Epps had a used T3 Varmint Stainless 300WM for sale.

I am a 300 Win Mag fan over the 7mm Mag, just as flat, heavier bullets and is the heaviest cartridge I can shoot well in a standard weight rifle.

The 338 Lapua is a whole different animal, vicious recoil, huge case somewhat impractical as a hunting rifle.

I would suggest the Rem. 700P . A buddy has one in .308 that he uses at 1000 yard shoots and is very competitive. Stock rifle, trigger job, top notch scope, carefully selected handloads, shoots under 1/2" MOA ( 10 shot groups).
