any body hunt these beauties? fly-in, riverboat, horses, hike from highway 97?

The sheep guy I know goes in with a riverboat. There are some trails off the Alaska Hwy that go into the back-country, but many of them are closed to vehicle access, so ATV's are out. There are several float plane bases that have charter operations in good sheep country, including the one at Muncho Lake.

Most hunters are pretty tight lipped about prime sheep area's. One fella took a guy with a jet boat up into a somewhat secret spot in the upper Muskwa and now that guy outfit's up there. Guides are pretty protective of "their" spots as well and have stopped flights into certain lakes, nor do some of them make friendly camping neighbours.

Late season Stones can be taken pretty near the highways as they near the wintering grounds. Problem is the weather can be pretty cold and a camper may not cut it.

Last I knew guides don't have any right to be unfriendly toward resident hunters, hunting legally in an area that the guide happens to operate in.

Interfering with a hunter is a provincial offence here in BC. Being a jerk is just plain wrong.

Sheep hunting is huge bussiness for outfitters but it does not give them the right to interfer with your hunt.

I hunted Bighorns hrtis year (missed the shot)

And this fall I am going to do a flyin for stones. No idea where I may go yet.

It shoudl be fun!!:D

I would love to go harvest one of those beauties. If anyone wants to take me along I'd go for sure.

nice dall's sheep crazy davey.

it'll be a few years yet before i try for a stone's sheep. going to work on a bighorn first since i can hunt them and sleep in my own bed every night. tough to find them in the timber though.

i've only run into guided hunters once in the back country, the guide couldn't have been more happy to see us, he said he had never seen anyone hike in there before. the two guided hunters had pretty long faces but lightened up a little when they found out we weren't hunting the same thing. i can see the outfitter's being asses about resident hunters, just do a search on the 'net and see how much they charge for a sheep hunt!

Yeah $20,000 is a little steep for any kind of hunt if you ask me!!!!
Thank god I live in B.C. just some fuel, gear and tags is all it costs for us to hunt sheep. I'm going for Rocky mountain bighorn this fall and Stones next fall.

At that time it was a factory 26" 300Wby tube. Took that sheep, and a lot of animals for that matter, with it in that configuration, mostly with 180 failsafes. That is a McMillan Griffin & Howe stock.

Since then it has been rebarreled to 358 Norma for more comfort in bear country.

At that time I didn't realize I needed a super light rifle in a ultra-modern WSSSM to shoot an animal. Hard to believe that long, skinny 300Wby cartridge killed anything! :p
