Hunting the Red stag

Dammit did you watch that Wild TV episode too ? *LOL* The one I saw had them bow hunting in New Zealand.... what an incredible hunting experience that must be.

Dogleg, good luck in Argentina (better post pics, gotta rub it in for us jealous bastards :D) !!

I used to hunt Reds when I lived in the UK. They are very wary more so than whitetails or mule deer. Very like Elk in habits and behaviour, so closely related that they can interbreed with Elk(bull elk were sometimes released on gentlemen's estates in the UK, and some Reds stil have Elk dna)
The meat is great, coarse grained but tender(they can be a bit funky if shot in the peak of the rut when they stop eating)
There is highland and lowland stalking. Highland is open hill, heather and rock/scrub aove the treeline. Lowland is forestry(very little hardwood in the UK, mostly spruce/pine)
The good news in the UK is the seasons. Open for 4 months if I remember right, although there's a deer season open for something year round in the UK.
Reds are awesome, I hope to get back to the western Scottish isles again someday to try and beat the 12 point royal I got last year!

I sure did, wow, what animals, see that tree that was cut for them to trash, in front of the bow hunter.?:D Horns are very cool, mass, lots of tines, and polished tips.
