FUN the damned Liberals would probably ban it if they knew.

I was out with the Xbow. Back up at the deer camp with my wife to deliver a freezer. We decided to chase off one of the blocks near the "painted tree". I saw tons of tracks, got lots of fresh air. Had a hell of a good time. No deer were seen, but it was still a lot of fun wading silently through the 6" or so of snow. There was just enough wind to cover other noises I made with branches and such, so I was hopefull I might sneak up on a bedded deer. Not that day.
Maybe next season. Next week is the last go round for hunting in 63B:(

Yeah I hear you JYC, this is my favourite time to hunt too. I love that snow, it can help so much, it seems to make your travel through the woods silent, and the deer seem to pop up out of the white background.

I was out on Saturday for the last day of our late season controlled hunt with my dad, and while I did not see anything, dad saw a couple of nice does. It was one of those days like you described, light wind, 6" of snow, and it just felt good to be out.

My buddy was out in the Ganaraska with his M/L on Friday with all that snow. Saw some tracks but didn't see any deer. All I could think of was how great a day that must have been, while I was sitting in traffic for over 2.5 hours.

light a fire in the cabin when you get up there...use the back cabin as its easier to heat...stoke er up good ...then you will be in a warm cabin when you want to defrost
cheers and happy hunting

I saw on the news that you guys in Ontario were cold.

Not that I'm rubbing it in,but we've only had a week or so of -20 but the rest has been +5 to -10 nice winter so far but the ####s for the farmers, loggers and the patch. Its usually a steady -35 from now until the end of January.

Not to mention there will be no early ice fishing with these temps.

Good luck on the hunt.

Yeah, some of the shallow southern Ontario lakes are froze up, but the deeper northern lakes are still open in a lot of places despite the temps. The lake in front of my cottage has only an inch of ice on it.
We see the -35 temps very very rarley. Maybe one or twice in the last thirty years or so. I don't mind that temp. The cold doesn't seem to penetrate as bad or something. No dampness in it.
