So. I had a conversation with a guy @ work today in reguards to hunting and trapping in Ontario. He asked me if it was legal to set a live trap for rabbits/squirrel. then he asked "Once the animal is in the trap shoot it then take it out. Would that be considered hunting?" His idea behind this was that live traps are used all the time catch and release animals why couldn't he use them to trap/"hunt" with.

thats what confused me. He only wants to harvest the meat

I looked at the reg's and cant find anything on it. Kind of an unfair hunt if you ask me. Pretty much baiting it to catch it, then killing it once caught. I think it might be looked at as a form of baiting.

AS far as i no the live trap has noit be tested to us for traPPING and hunting . thy are not a nice trap as animals will break teath and rip nails out of there feet tring to dig out .thy can be used to get ride of problem animal . but that is about it .

Tell the guy to be a real hunter or trapper and maybe he should go take a course and learn something instead of being lazy.

He is the captain of SFQ. He's also asked me about sneaking up on sleeping deer and knifeing them. Some of the things people think up.

I almost asked what SFQ was...then i read the rest of this post and it became clear.:runaway:

Tell him that's not sporting, way too easy. The correct method is to drop down onto them from the trees as they pass below...knife clenched in jaws, naturally.

Interesting.

As long as he has a small game license, he might be on to something. The definitive answer would come from the MNR I guess.
