One Man Dead Following Weekend Hunting Accident in Hackney Hills Area

It was a tragic hunting accident this weekend for two Powell River men who had known each other since childhood.

One man left his camp near Graham Forest Road outside of Fort St. John on Thursday by ATV. When the missing hunter didn’t return, his friend set out to find him the next morning.

He made the unfortunate discovery of the body of his friend pinned under the ATV with the body of a dead elk tied to it.

RCMP were alerted and drove by quad one and hours into the bush to reach the accident scene. The body was later flown out by helicopter.

Early police investigations show the quad rolled off a trail and onto the hunter, but RCMP say they are not treating the death as suspicious

Damn. That's bloody tragic.

We have a bit of a rule - 2 men to an extraction. At the very least one can keep an eye out for bear, but it's easy to have a quad accident getting an animal out. It just makes sense - if you're buddy's still hunting gut it and come back for it or go get him.

That is tragic. Anybody you know (or know of), Westicle? Regardless, it is sad and I feel for his friends and family. Be careful out there, folks. What you said, Foxer.

I always drag big critters, or use a trailer, but then again by the time season opens in the zone I'm hunting there is snow onthe ground.

Quads are dangerous if your not carefull, I worked in the bush for years and used quads everyday to get around. I'm also a Canada Safety Council Quad Safety Instructor, And there are times that even if you do everything right you can still be surprised and find yourself in trouble.

Sad to hear
