Out here in BC. What truck or vehicle do you use to go hunting with. I am considering a bush pick up but I also want something small around town. I seen some Jeep Wranglers with roof rack that might support big game. Anyone hunt with a Jeep?

I want to cover my bases and not worry about my ride.

Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhp............yuck.
Suzuki Tracker, Sidekick, Sami and such.
Tight, good on fuel, mod'd won't git stuck.
Still room for a couple buckies in the back or a mewse too.

Late 80s/early 90s vehicles are tough and cheap. Built without crumple zones or airbags, they're stiffer and stronger for flogging up logging roads but still lighter and not gelded by emissions equipment. Looser suspensions and short, narrow wheelbases do quite well on dirt and tires with a wide sidewall are tougher, drum brakes do better in mud. Fewer parts to break, easy to jury rig repairs on, easy to find parts, and cheap enough to not cry when she goes over the side.

Ford Festiva and Volvo 240 are two models to consider (I've had several of both). The Ford has a unique monocoque frame which protects the drivetrain from impact damage, the Volvo is more comfortable and has more payload. Mazda MPV, Toyota Tercel work well too.

Nowadays I drive a lifted F150, but it's just a toy and not needed for hunting, although heated bench seats are great for sleeping on.

+1 for Jeep, I rock Cherokees till the wheels fall off.

A lot more room and power then a Sidekick or Samurai, not much larger over all. A lot nicer to drive on the highway for long distances to get to and from hunting site.

I could fit 1 or 2 deer carcasses into my rooftop carrier and still have room in my Jeep for lots more gear/ect.

94 f150...

Just bought a 47 willys but the old ##### will have to wait until next season.

84 toyota prospector, 4x4, 4 cylinder diesel, extra cab, 2 gun/ gun rack behind the seat on the back cab wall and a 2 gun holder between the seats. Flat deck on it and a 4500lb winch mounted behind the cab to grag game up into the box. The side rail planks come off to serve as ramps. I can and have loaded whole moose onto the deck by myself to get it back to camp.

I used to rock this 67 Land Rover 88 with PTO winch. It really would go anywhere but I got fed up with the slow highway speeds, now I use a Silverado 2500HD that's old enough that I don't care about trail damage to the truck.

Unimog!!! Maybe some day. I don't know what it is but I really like them. I ran into a guy who reconditioned them and had 3 in his workshop. Pretty cool workhorse.

I've been with buddies using 4 runners and they worked decent on the logging roads. Also I know a couple who bought those little Suzuki 4 banger SUV and modded them up. Apparently they work well on the trails and are pretty cheap.

If you want small, the Samurai, Tracker, etc... might be the way to go, if you can find one in half decent shape. My buddy's dad guided for many years with nothing but a Suzuki Samurai, said it never failed to get him out of the woods. The front end fell off once, it was easily tied back on with a bunch of rope and driven home - try that with your 4x4 diesel 3/4 ton. The battery went on it too, he simply put it in gear, jacked up the rear end and spun the tire fast enough to get the motor to turn over. Trick is to run and jump in fast enough before it plows a tree and stalls.
Personally I'm looking for a 73-87 GMC 1/2 ton, easy to fix and parts abound.

!!!!!!!!NOOOO!!!!!!!! you hound.
Photos, go git'tim.....................git.................

This is the only one I have. I am going to have it hauled home this week.

I think I have a transmission case left over from my 1942 Willy.
Not sure what else is out there, need to look under the benches.
It's amazing where those critters will go.

Only vehicle i have right now is my 2012 ram 3500, mounting a winch in the box this week for loading critters.

To get animals out of the bush i either use my polaris 800 browning edition, or my prowler xtx 700

I JUST ( as in yesterday) picked up an 86, GMC jimmy (the s10 edition, so not fullsize). and of course, had to see if i could get it stuck.. was more of a challange than i thought. i will def be taking it out this season, and for 200 bucks, how could i go wrong? Roof rack and all. i will toss on a couple inches of lift, and may some bigger tires before hunting season, but for the prixe and fuel economy (2.8L) its just perfect for me. i would suggest something similar

Buy a jeep or a Tracker or a Samurai. You can drive them to the woods sans trailer, drive through the woods all day, throw your deer in the back, and drive home. You don't have to wear a helmet, it's easy to carry guns, you have a heater ... I had a '91 Tracker and it was the best hunting vehicle for any situation except moose (not really an issue in NB,' cuz we never get tags) or hunting parties larger than two. Three was doable, four, well, forget it.

Dont expect fuel economy from the 2.8L. The V6 with the power of a 4 cylinder and the fuel economy of a V8
