Hunting Vehicles, Geo Tracker?

Only because this turned into a picture thread, ;)

This is my hunting truck;
97 Blazer, bought for $1800, excellent condition. Lifted it enough for 31's, and removed both sway bars. Rear seats fold flat and twin mattress fits perfect.

Because I can't throw anything out, I kept part of my old truck. It hauls the gear and meat. Was a 96 s10 4x4. That was the best truck I've ever owned.
The trailer has water tank and water pump w/shower and sink, propane, and 12v.

I've since replaced the rear springs and cranked the torsion bars some more.

^ when I was checking out blazers a few years ago, I really liked that the seats went flat and you could sleep in the back. Even though I started looking at them again, everyone says it's not a good idea.

I should post a pick of my current truck.

How easily does that VW diesel link up to the tranny?
I've a 85 Rabbit TDI languishing under the trees, new injection pump...but a bent intake valve. Pondering if it's worth cracking open and repairing.
If it's an easy swap, might have to pull it and repair it. Turbo diesels are cool power plants

it is fairly straight forward , once it is in , the motor appears almost like it was meant to be there .

it is very easy to double , even triple the hp on a vw idi turbo diesel .... but if this is done , the stock Suzuki tranny will not hold up to the power , this includes the new ones ( ie sidekick ) with the 1.6l motor .

start with a Toyota 4cyl transmission / transfercase , even if you keep the stock Suzuki diffs .

there is a couple companies making adapter plates . you want the one that uses the flywheel that goes with the transmission , not the vw flywheel .
( this means avoid the axis kit , and go with the acme kit )

in my brothers case he used a 22r flywheel and clutch and ended up using a oilite bushing as a pilot bearing .

you need to relocate the oil filter .
you also need a fuel pump that will not go over 15 psi to the injection pump .

you can buy motor mounts .... I found it was just as easy to build them .

you need welding / fabrication skills . I feel the suspension lift I did on my bronco2 was more grief than the vw engine swap on the Suzuki .

he is running a Toyota pick up with a newer vw tdi diesel in it , with 35 inch tires it still gets better than 40 mpg ,even loaded to capacity .

Your really pushing that 1.3 at 100k p/h, even with the factory 27" tires. With 31" tires I couldn't get into 5th gear. Re-gearing the transfer case and an engine swap made my zuke way better. I'll probably re-gear the diffs as well at some point. Each to their own though, what ever works for you.

Why, yes, when you go with much bigger tire you have to regear and that's true for any vehicle.

Actually I did re-gear my transfer case and swapped out my 1.3 engine before I put 31" tires on it. The truth is, even with the factory 27" tires you would have a tough time getting into 5th gear, you could with a tail wind or a down hill. The 1.3 is gutless, and that is why most zukey nuts go with the 1.6 tracker conversion or go with a diesel. With bigger tires its a no brainer.

What do you guys think of Jeep Liberty / Renegade , the pre 05 models? On another note there are a lot of deals and private sales on craigslist that just don't respond to inquires. Annoying :/

I like the look and the size of the Liberty, but anything made by Dodge Crysler scares me. I've owned a couple of dodge trucks and I've sworn to never own another. lol.

^ everything seems to be a crap shoot .. honestly with my family the only cars that haven't given us troubles have been Toyota's. I worry about dumping money into a lemon, the used car market around here is a real racket.

My brothers other half has one, he keeps polishing it, but it's still a turd

Laugh2........that's funny chit right there.

My Zewk has 235/75R/15's and I still have decent power.
Was tempted to try 30/9.50/15's to see what I'd lose.
When the 31's on my truck get down a bit more, I'm going to move them
over to see how much power loss I experience.
Only problem with going much wider is the amount of chit that comes off the tires
and makes a mess.
Ohhhhh, puddle, roll them vinders up.
