Hi all, I checked regulations and so far was able to find that I can hunt racoons with .22lr. Can't I hunt any other small game and also, for rimfire, is there any mag capacity limit?

Along with racoons, there's rabbits grouse fox skunk squirrel coyote
And possibly more check the regs for your province. For coyote it's recommended most to use a larger caliber(223, 243win, 22wmr etc)

Also rimfires have no mag limits as long as the mag isn't a pistol mag,
Or interchangable between rifle and pistol then it's 10

I am in ON, and that's what I thought about mag restriction. However, so if I have 2 open season overlapping each other, then I can shoot small game with 22lr and big one with with higher caliber?

Never seen a law or regulation to the contrary, but if you need a 50 rd drum,
your prolly doing it wrong.

My understanding it depends on what you are hunting, and what open seasons are on. I'd call on that one.

You can hunt anything in Ontario other than Deer, Bear, Moose, and Elk with a 22.

The only firearm that has a mag restriction is shotguns (2 in the mag, 1 in the chamber). All other firearms mag limits are federally regulated (semi-auto=5rds, everything else as much as you want).

During the open season for deer, moose, and elk, you cannot possess a firearm bigger than a 22 unless you hold a tag for the big game species that is open.

So if I were to use a Tavor during the hunt, I could use 10rd LAR mags??

Mag capacities for hunting are enforced by the MNR.
Mag capacities for all other purposes are enforced by the CFO. They don't read from the same page.
Your shot gun will be limited to 2 rounds for water fowl and MUST be plugged.
If you have a deer tag and a small game tag. You can not carry a 22lr and a 308. You must be hunting either deer OR small game. But not both.....Which is why combo guns have their place. Under the law they don't count as two guns but offer variable calibers for different situations.

In Ontario Racoon hunting is done at night with 22 S/L/LR, spotlights and requires a licensed dog....not to say you can't shoot one in the day. But you are going to really "hunt them" this is what you need to do. Dog chases them up a tree you spotlight and shoot.

From the MNR Regs -
If you wish to hunt raccoons at night, you must carry your
resident’s licence to hunt raccoon at night and your
Outdoors Card with a small game licence tag. You must also
be accompanied by a dog licensed for raccoon hunting. You
can only use a .22 calibre rim-fire rifle chambered for the
following cartridges: .22 short, .22 long or .22 long rifle.
Raccoon night hunters must have their guns encased while
in the vehicle. A licensed night raccoon hunter may use a
light if it is not shone from or attached to a vehicle or boat.
