Hunting with .308 cast loads?

She enjoys coming out with me whenever I head out for the pond or trail. She wants to participate actively now and not just watch...although she says she really enjoys coming out even if it proves to be just a walk with a gun. And back to possibilities, I was looking through a recent copy of Handloader and found an interesting 7-08 load: a 139 grain bullet ahead of about 34 grains of 8208 for a little under 2400fps. That might just be mild enough.

My wife has nerve damage and therefore is VERY recoil sensitive.

My first success finding a low recoil round was achieved using a 185 grain cast bullet with a gas check and 13 grains of red dot powder. The rifle is a lee enfield sporter. Accuracy is very good out to 200 yards with that load. I've also used the identical load for a Mauser in 8x57 and my mosin nagant. It tames both of those rounds nicely and they become pussy cats to shoot.

She also loves to shoot any of our 3 rifles chambered in 6.5x55 and finds them to be gental even with full power loads. The 6.5x55 round shoots flat out to 300 yards and hits like a freight train.

Recently I got her a Savage 340d in 222 Remington. The rifle is a little small for me but it fits her like a glove. Perhaps one in 30/30 may do the trick?
