hunting with 7.62 x39?

Maybe elsewhere, here in McMurray I do a semi-annual trip to Edmonton for supplies and I just happen to look at Wholesale and they had a few in stock. They may very well be available elsewhere but I haven't seen them on the last few trips to Milarm, Wholesale and P&D.

I'm actually really interested in hunting with this cartridge, particularly since CanadaAmmo has such a good deal on it. Grab an SKS for something like 250ish, and I'd think it'd be a half-decent hunting platform (within fifty yards, of course).

7.62x39 SP hunting ammo is available almost anywhere you can buy ammo here in Edmonton. Don't use FMJ's on anyhting bigger than coyotes.

If I was only looking at deer hunting, I'd support your decision to go SKS over 303. It's the modern equivalent of a 30-30 in an 18.5" lever carbine

How much does canadaammo sell soft point 7.62X39 hunting rounds for?
I thought they only sold the mil. surplus metal jacket (not for hunting) rounds and are currently out of stock.

Federal 125SP goes for ~12/box around here. That translates to $672 for 1120 rounds - the equivalent of a case of milsurp. Making it about 4x the price.

However, you don't exactly need 1000 rounds to hunt with. A couple boxes per year should take care of your hunting needs, and the milsurp will take care of your plinking needs.

Well, any excuse to go shooting stuff is good, right? "But HONEY! I NEED to get my sights lined up - again!" :D
