I am thinking of buying a canoe or one of those Stealth 1200 boats to do some duck hunting. I wanted something I could just throw onto the roof of my car and is pretty rugged if I have to drag it through the bush. I am just wondering what the pros and cons are of using a canoe (like stability, noise, roominess etc.) and anything I should look and plan for. I don't want something that needs a trailer and I don't own a truck Any and all ideas are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Trade your car for one of these:

Hey, isn't that Todbartell driving? :D

Hey, Frank B, sorry for the hijack! What Levi Garrett said makes sense. Unless you're very good with a canoe, get something with a wide, flat bottom. These are nice, as RobP mentioned:

This is the 14' Sportspal Transom aluminum weighing 56 lbs. The 12 foot weighs in at 46 lbs.

NO DOGS ALLOWED.

I have a 17.5' kevlar/teak at about 55lbs, wish mine had a flatback. I had to make an extra special super duper piece of plywood aftmount to run a minn-kota. An aluminium 10-14ft johnboat is better for stability but a bit heavier, probably close to 100lbs if not more depending on seat config/extras.

Match your canoe to the water. No keel turns easy, ideal for rivers, but is not great for open water like lakes where the wind can take you wherever it wants.
I made a single sheet of plywood punt/coffin for flooded timbers/sloughs and I have a 15ft million lb glassjob that I found smashed up on a riverbank for small reed lined lakes.

I have not yet rolled, don't be a spaz and try to shoot at everything that appears. I left an eager friend parked in the reeds while I went to retrieve and he managed to dunk the side of his head and shoulder using 3.5"BB at a 90deg flyby.

And NO DOGS allowed.

I suggest using a small lighter model canoe...cause those bigger heavy ones are hard to throw very far and duck tend to fly so high...plus doubling as a deer hunting canoe it would be hard to swing at a deers head in the end

:D
