This year was my first year hunting (white tail).

I used a Norinco M305, but found it to be way too heavy to push bush.

Next year I was thinking of using a CZ858 to go hunting. Does anyone else do this?

Went hunting with mine using S&B softpoints. Didn't bag anything, but its a nice light gun, easy to handle. Plus, I can shoot it accuratly out to 200yrds with irons, so its got that going for it.

I used S&B softpoints and didn't get anything this year, worked well though, better than the Jungle Carbine I typically use.

For anything less then 200m the 858 and SKS are more then up to the challenge of deer. Great bush guns. I would use the M14 for open areas where I'm laying in wait though :D.

I spent 8 hours carrying mine around the woods this year. Not once did the weight ever bother, very nice light rifle. I loaded Barnes TSX bullets I bought for Mysticplayer, in brass I got from him as well.

Yeah, the M14 ain't a hunting rifle, the weight is just too much. The CZ-858 must be sweet for hunting, very acurate with the iron sights.

I want an 858 NR to hunt next year.

After 4 days of pushing bush I actually had to downgrade to my Domion Arms Backpacker when pushing bush (time to get back in shape).

I had a few strange looks walking around with a short barraled shotgun.

Next year, one gun, that's it. Big thing though, is what kind of scope mount to get?

I can hit a 8" gong at 300 more than half the time using the Czech surplus ammo through my 4v open sights while crouched (that might come up since I got glasses, lol), and my brother does equal or better through his. So the platform is more than capable. Haven't tried hunting with mine or even put any non FMJs through it though.

My last 858 shot WAY different with the Czech than with the S&B soft stuff. Is this pretty much standard for you guys? Just to clarify when I say off i mean a solid 6" right of FMJ zero at 50y.
