Hunting with a Mosin???

Wow!
Came back to recheck this thread and did not know there were more posts! Update: see new post " SKS for spring bear??" in the hunting section. After the info given here, I went to my local store to get the SP ammo for the M38. They had none in stock and could not get any in time for this week. Soooo I had a brainwave to use an SKS instead. Got some Fusion 123 JSP ammo which costs a fortune, and tried it out at the range. Long and short, looking for good .308 ammo now. The SKS was not meant as a hunting gun, at least, not in my hands! I have ordered ammo for the Mosin so may bring it this fall for a LEH hunt.

tokguy - Is this your daughter in the picture?
Fantastic to see more girls my age hunting, and succeeding apparently. Good for her.

I should move to Alberta, girls in SW Ontario are all hipsters/ditzes for the most part.
No appreciation for the outdoors or work ethic to be found here.

She's in getting certified today; hunters Ed and Firearms safety, she'll be legal on all fronts.
Savanah's is a really good shot and seems to be a recoil sponge, it affects her 'zero'

I think you'll be just fine with your Mosin carbine. Some of them actually shoot more accurately than some 91/30s since the longer variant often shoot rather high at 100 yrds

If you are heading out to Hope for your hunt you should check with Kent Outdoors in Agassiz for ammo. They are like 10 minutes off hwy1 between chillowack and hopes

Thanks Suther!
Just found out about Kent this past Sunday! Didn't even know they existed!
Update from my SKS thread.... Hunt will now happen with a BSA 30-06 loaded with Fed 180gr JSP! Mosin would have been epic but maybe next year! I am so in love with the ol' 30-06 now!!
