Hunting with a muzzle brake- how do you cover/protect it?

For those of you that hunt with a brake how do you cover/protect the muzzle when in the field? I don't currently have one installed, but I would think that with all of the holes it would be a magnet for all kinds of pine needles and crap to get into the bore while hiking.
Wrap the whole thing up with tape? some kind of sock?

unscrew the brake throw away get a collar made to cover the threads brakes are just to loud for my taste . when hunting who feels recoil I never even notice it .
 
In the heat of the moment, the last thing I am thinking about is how bad the rifle kicks, but moreso of my shot placement.

IMO,.. if you are worried so much about kick,. you are using the wrong firearm or don't shoot it enough.

Used a rubber glove(carry some in my hunting bag) and elastic because of water repelling ability, also can still shoot through it if needed in a hurry.

in all seriousness, do they really collect stuff any worse than a normal muzzle?
i don't see why a condom and some electrical tape wouldn't fit the bill.
 
black rubber condoms.. just kidding.. I found a kit that was made for black powder shooter, that are like "glove fingers" rolled up like condoms, and they just roll over the end of the barrel. bought them from a gun shop.

Hey,don't laugh,I've used electrical tape over the muzzle of my ML when hunting in the rain,and my .22 when bunny hunting/trapping etc. in deep snow.

True story:I know "this guy"(won't mention any names.....ahemmmm,LOL)that many moons ago as a kid trapping plugged his .22 muzzle with snow.Decided to clear the snow with my...errr,I mean,his breath,and ended up with the bizness end of a loaded rifle stuck to his lower lip for a few minutes.Never did tell Dad about that stunt.

I don't see this as being silly? Curious if you tape your muzzle? Hunting in the rain, snow and hiking around and not protecting the muzzle from foreign objects and water is a sure way to a bulged barrel or worse.

I guess if you don't get out of the truck then it would be silly....
 
I did it once and that was enough!

The blast hit me so hard,I lost my balance, and ended up with a 2 day migrain and hearing damage. I was in a steel box stand and had a 300 wby with a screw on muzzle brake.

It was stupid, and I was the one that brough it on myself.

I ruined my week in camp,.

I have tried the enhanced ear muffs the wind will drive you nuts.

I have unscrewed the brake while hunting from now on.
 
I put electrical tape over my muzzles when driving to keep the crap out, the same type of idea should be fine for the brake itself. Test the POI though.

First off, about your "getting out of the truck" comment, f**k you. Now that we are on an even playing field, I do not consider pine needles an issue, I mean really, what are the circumstances that would lead to the build up of pine needles in your barrel? Same with rain.

While it might happen, why is it we never see pictures of soldiers with tape or condoms over their muzzles? Oh, I guess we don't see them in the jungles or snow.:rolleyes:

I just don't think the occasional instance of a barrel obstruction compared to the 100's of 1,000s of hours spent by hunters in the woods each year is a big concern. And I have never heard of a bulged barrel because a pine needle happened to somehow get lodged in a barrel, have you? Mud, snow, yes. Pine needles? Still sounds silly to me.

If you don't want my opinion then post what opinions you are looking for in your original post and I won't waste your time.
 
Go to your local pharmacy and look around their medical supplies section for an item called "Finger Cot" it is like a tiny condom for your fingers. Designed to protect your digits after surgery, stitches, etc... Will fit perfectly over the muzzle of your barrel and firing a bullet will simply blow it off.

Re- read my question. I did not ask for your opinion if you think it is a silly idea, I simply asked how people cover/protect the ends of their muzzles that have a brake installed. That was the question. Seems most serious questions get the odd smart ass answer, so thanks for not letting me down in that regard.

I honestly could not imagine packing my gun around in the field without the muzzle end of the bore protected. I personally know two people that have bulged barrels- and yes it happens, just talk to a gunsmith.
