I can understand not being able to carry a hangun in the city or close to one but up north and rural areas i think the rules should be different. I would enjoy nothing more than being able to carry a nice 22 lr pistol on you while hunting deer or moose for small game. Target shooting behind the cottage or out in the woods. These laws are ridiculous Imo they are so strict and controlling. Only being able to go to a range and all these permits restricts your rights and turns you off ever getting a handgun.

Do you think we will ever be able to hunt in canada with a handgun ?

Maybe not in "La Belle Province", but you can use a pistol in other some other provinces. Hint - it has to be a special pistol - there are a few for sale in the EE currently.

You could at one time in Ontario. Our friends at the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters petitioned the government to end it. Go figure.

Do you happen to remember what their reasoning behind it was?

I have no idea. You might want to contact OFAH and ask them what their reasoning was.

It is no secret handgun ownership has not been widely supported by long gunners across Canada and even in the US. I suspect it was a different time with hopefully different mindsets then we have today. I don't think it ever occurred to those who own long guns only, their use and ownership would be controlled or defined by firearms laws. Given what Australia did with their reaction to a mass shooting I suspect some long gunner's eyes were opened to the fact they to could fall under the same bus they at one time were prepared to throw hand gunners under.

All of this is one reason why I and others more than I work to expand the safe use of handguns to as wide of audience as possible. The more folks involved in the shooting sports the harder it will be for the anti gun crowd to garner support for even tougher legislation. It starts with you.

Very few, unfortunately. The three Ruger 10/22 owners I know threw their Butler Creek 25 round mags in the garbage as soon as I sent them the confirmation of the RCMP re-interpretation on the magazine laws... something like 12 or 15 magazines in total. My intent was to incite them to finally give a f#ck and it didn't happen.

So, no. There will never be any less gun laws in this country, and the above is why.

Sadly you likely are right. Most honest folks have to much to lose i a fight with their own government. Some fortunately care enough to fight back and others are smart enough to know when a problem exists and when one doesn't.

The Conservatives got rid of the long gun registry which was a major victory for common sense as was the elimination of the LTATT.

Agreed about the LGR, but the CPC failed with the ATT crap. It should have been completely done away with. It wasn't.

You're working the forums hard these days... You can hunt with a pistol.

I work a lot and get quite a bit of down time. I am interested in firearms, hunting issues have been ever since I was a kid and recently found this forum. Not that's it's any of your business anyway.

Besides I thought that what we are suppose to do

Hunt with a pistol? What's the point when rifles and shotguns are available and more useful/available nc curate. Save pistol hunting for after the apocalypse
