Hunting with an E- Bike !

Lots of banned guys in this post.

But, how do guys find the actual vs claimed range of E-Bikes?
I find with mine it’s pretty close to what is advertised around 40 miles, 70 kms. The thing is there are many variables that affect the range, what pedal assist level you are using, terrain, temperature, wind etc.

I've been doing a lot research on this idea as well. This fall I came very close to pulling the trigger on the Jasion X-Hunter folding model that is offered on Amazon. (Imagine, you can order a folding ebike off Amazon lol)

I may scoop one of these for next year to use for scouting and grouse hunting Folding eBike

Curious about the ebike as well. Have some spots close to home that are about a 25k round trip kinda thing.
What i am most curious about though is for those of you who do use these ebikes in the back country on multi day trips...... what do you use to charge them?

Can't seem to revive the old thread. I've had an MJM fat tire for three seasons now. It is a full size bike. I just ride mine around town, but am going to ride a bit out in the country this coming season. MJM are good quality bikes. My wife has a three wheeler, but got scared when she dumped it and won't ride it now. Three wheelers are a totally different ride. I have ridden her bike, but prefer mine.

what is the average charge time for the battery on your bike?
I suppose a decent generator in camp would charge these bikes without issue, just wondering about how many hours from dead to full charge.
Wonder what kind of portable solar systems would be practical as well. I have an atv so getting around isn't an issue but i get no excercise on the quad while i might get some meaningful exercise on a ebike doing some of the pedalling and the stealth of it. Riding the quad to my ground blind or treestand in the dark will still alert animals that might not be so alerted to an ebike sneaking in.

I am not sure on charging times, etc. I ride around for a while, go home and usually plug it in, not paying much attention to how long it takes.
I usually pedal with maybe #1 assist, I do get some exercise. I've had it up to around 36 kph on pavement, no assist, on a bit of a downhill. Probably wouldn't get too far that way. I have about 1300 kms on the bike now. It is very quiet, except for the tires buzzing on the pavement. That wouldn't be a factor on dirt, though.

Why not
been lookin at these and I believe they have their place ..
I pretty much walk in to stands over 1/2 to 2 Kms
Old legs and the equipment seems to get heavier ever year ..
I see some at about 1200.00 that fold and weigh about 50 lbs .
Leave it in the bush , hop on and go
any thoughts, ideas , experience

I have a first gen Rambo mid drive fat tire. Been hunting with it for years. I'm on my second battery- upgraded to 52 from 48v and almost twice the AH rating. Very good range, It really is great in cold weather for climbing the front range where I hunt without working up a sweat- something you don't need if your hunting from a blind.

Your first question makes no sense (It's the same thing). The much bigger battery came with its own mount and harness, so connectors had to be changed. I bought a reprogrammer kit ( Cheap on amazon) with the battery but from what I have read it is not neccessary. The difference in performanc is quite noticeable, I can't comment on the range as I have never come close to running down the battery. The capacity is 24ah, the original was 11ah and after 8 years of use was at about half capacity.

Going from more power (52 volt) to less power (48 volt) isn't an upgrade.

I ran into a couple last fall while Grouse hunting in a Conservation Area forest. They were day trip backpacking . They stopped to talk and I had a good look at the bikes. My first question was about range and charge time. In the back of my mind was the use for hunting. There was even a picture of Jim Shockey on the side. He explained that in the warm weather, it was continual use all day for 8-10 hours before they needed full recharge which was 10 hours plugged in at home. In cooler and cold weather, use dropped significantly,so,they carried an extra battery each to last all day. I thought they would be good to use for back and forth from ther truck landing into the blind until he told me the price for their particular units....$3.8K each, spare battery. not included. Like,HOLY CRAP!
