I'm just wondering - does anyone here hunt with a NON RESTRICTED black rifle - like the TAVOR, Swiss Arms SG550 or the Robinson XCR;

I especially like the TAVOR :D

I think it would be a lot of fun using the Tavor to hunt Coyotes. It also accepts 10-round .223 LAR pistol mags which are legal, circumventing the 5 round limit. Just in case I run into a whole family of coyotes :D

But something tells me I might get a lot of unwanted attention walking around with it in the field.

What do you guys think? Anyone care to share their experience?

I just asked the same question at oodmag.com in the Hunt Ontario forum, and I don't think I have made a lot of friends there.......
 
Well, I havn't tried this yet, but I have an Ar180 and would like to do the same (Coyote hunting) sometime this fall. I think it'd be ok (and alot of fun :D) as far as the law is concerned. Just make sure you have your papers with you.
 
I have hunted white tail deer in Manitoba with my Swiss Arms for the past three years. Never had any trouble or hassle from anyone because it. I have had a few stares but no one's ever made a issue of it.
 
If you're going to be scared to use your non-restricted black rifle, then there's not much point in having one is there?:p Get out there and use it, :D:D:D, make sure you have your paperwork with you.:)

I want a high cap (10) mag to maximize the coyote body count - I have an old couch that I want to re-upholster if you know what I mean :D
 
In some provinces, magazine capacity is restricted to 5 rounds in semiautomatic firearms. The restriction is via the respective provinces Wildlife act. In Alberta we are restricted to a maximum of 5 rounds in a semi, and a minimum bullet diameter of 0.23"

The minimum diameter only applies to larger game. Coyotes are perfectly fine to shoot with smaller rounds.

I'm not sure the hunting regs apply to coyotes, as they are on the pest list and are open all year.

I've used all my non-restricted black rifles at one time or another to shoot coyotes, gophers, rabbits, badgers, foxes, cats, rats, etc.
 
Use of the LAR mag technically would not be illegal. But I don't want to be the first one arguing in court the semantics that it's a pistol mag that happens to fit in a rifle and so it's not illegal because the illegal act is POSSESSING a semi auto rifle mag of higher capacity than 5. Not the act of having it in a rifle.

That being said... I have 4 LAR mags on order....

Question now is do I use em in a Tavor or a T-95... sigh....

You're right, you havent made many friends over at OOD. A little bit of a different crowd then CGN. I wouldnt personally use one due to likelyhood of a meeting with the OPP rising, nor do I condem you for wanting to use one.
 
Gentleman, with regards to the 10 round LAR15 mags, we all know they are legal to use in a rifle in regards to the Firearms Act.

The issue is with HUNTING REGULATIONS that limit magazines to 5 rounds.
