Hi,

I just would like to know if its common for hunter to wear body armor during bow season in zone with a lot of poacher ?
(since we are not required to wear the orange blazer)

P.S. I started looking around and found that a decent level 3 with camo, that would stop most rifle round, would cost me about the price of a high end hunting jacket.

no need to wear blaze in ontario for dear (during bow season), and i have never had an issue, but if a poacher is aiming 18 feet up in a stand we both have problems !!LOL..i've seen dear jump before...but NOT THAT HIGH !!!

Wearing a safety vest is mandatory in Quebec

All hunters, guides and individuals accompanying a hunter must wear a fluorescent, orange-coloured safety vest, at least 2 580 square centimetres (400 square inches) in size, covering the back, shoulders and chest. Hunters must make sure that this vest remains visible at all times and from every angle, even when a backpack is worn.

However, the wearing of this safety vest is not obligatory in the following cases: hunting American crow, wild turkey, rock dove or migratory birds; hunting moose, white-tailed deer and black bear during the season when only bow and crossbow hunting is allowed; hunting frogs; hunting hares and Eastern cottontail using a snare; hunting coyote, wolf and red fox (silver, cross or red) from December 1st to March 31st; when hunting with a bird of prey and nobody is in possession of a weapon; when hunting with a bow or crossbow in a hunting sector reserved for the exclusive use of bows or crossbows in a wildlife territory and when all hunters use a bow or crossbow when hunting in a sector of an outfitter establishment with exclusive hunting rights.

Let's hope it has'nt come to the point where you need it!
Having worn armour for long periods of time, I can tell you that you don't want to. Anything that'll stop a rifle will be very restrictive to wear.

I wear plaid. It's lighter. And ###ier.

Those damn eastern man-eating coyotes must be getting smarter or something...

Arrows penetrate regular body armor.
So do rifle bullets launched at appropriate velocities.
What exactly are you trying to achieve?

Yes, very common. I'm partial to chain mail myself, but to each his own.

On the other hand, you could simply opt to go with the orange blazer. Available from Harry Rosen and other fine outdoor shops.

I just reread the post, for bow season......oops my bad.

It wont stop an arrow, or many rifle bullets.

I wear armor for work and I can tell you that you wouldn't want to wear it in the bush. Especially for deer season when it's warm out. It's hot, it gets heavy, and it can be restrictive.

Now this is funny stuff!

Hey, it's your skin, you do what you like to protect it: helmet, gloves, goggles, gas mask, armour- whatever. How does it effect anyone else? On the other hand, anything that would stop rifle fire would be very un-comfortable, given the nature of bow hunting, and the remote chance you would need it. Better to just be visible to other hunters.
