hunting with cast??

He's just bitter because his wife won't let him cast, so has to be Debbie Downer to the rest of us.

It's she, and the fact that you go out saying things like that is pretty indicative of why a lot of my friends don't like going to the range even when they enjoy shooting.

And no I've no issue with older guns or using older systems. I've very cleadly said that while you can do it there's plenty of reasons not to.

You can go red in the face claiming other people are bitter and locked up by women for using the electric car instead of the steam engine if you really want.

I never struggled to find any hunting ammo, especially as I didn't choose a niche calibre (I'm not suggesting you did).

There are copper only bullets, and jacketed lead based ammunition is specifically designed to retain it's mass. Using lead why would you use a more expensive ammo is just hands down a bad idea when it can be avoided.

The rainbow sucks.

Expansion is a huge amount, arguing against expansion is basically arguing for a higher recoiling, more expensive and more meat wasting alternative....because reasons.

Everyone can choose what they want to choose, but using 19th century bullets in the 21st century when you don't need to can be novel, challenging and interesting but ultimately you're just making life harder for yourself and putting yourself at risk. Big boys rules though so it's up to you :)
Oh man, just stop, or better yet gives us your take on bow hunting!

There’s another forum that also discusses the lead problem. And here ( again) is my take: So far as I can see, lead fragments in game meat are largely due to using cheap cup-and-core in over-powered rifles at close ranges. No problem with cast bullets because they can’t travel at the same velocities as jacketed. This, of course, also means you’re more likely to limit yourself to ethical shots and within the limits of your ammo. On the other hand, if you anticipate shooting game at 350 yards, you should probably have solid copper... just in case the game shows up at 50 yards ( and you don’t want to eat lead).

I am curious about plated bullets I know they are just lead under the plating. I have a 45-70 I bought a bunch of the new campro 405 gr and altho I don't plan on hunting with it I was just curious as to being able to do so if I did want or need to use it.

Was reading that the plated bullets have a uneven coating. The ones a frend of mine pricked up and tried could not hit papper at 50 feet. Id try prouder coated. Bullet Barn hard cast is all I use.

I’ve heard the same about the campro bullets. Plinking fodder
I’m still kicking it old school with the Lyman lubesizer. Haven’t jumped the creek for powder coated yet....

Lead poisoning?
I don't eat the boolit hole.
I have bit the lead sinkers.
But the real question is "you gonna cook that piece of meat in one of them "Super Slick Non-Stick" flake shedding fryin pans?".
What kinda poison is that?
.
gregc,

Use the lead, have fun.

The question to answer is why would you want to?

Forgive me if I am wrong but by using cast it seems like you'll get:

- Greater lead exposure in the meat (lead poisoning is not fun, and yes our ancestors did it because that's all they had)

What if it's a head shot?
