Hunting With Cylinder Bore

Northern Ontario = Full or turkey choke for headshots, as you practically have to kick them for them to flush

Southern Ontario = IC or Mod for wingshots, as when you see them, its because they are flying

If you are ground pounding them choke and gauge doesn't mean much. If taking wing shots the Cyl/IC/Sk chokes are the way to go. I hunt over a Brittany and choke my grouse/woodcock gun Cyl/Sk. There are probably a million grouse who die in a cloud of gravel compared to the classic bird flushed by a hunter & bird dog.

I've hunted partridge and pheasants in four provinces- one of them Ontario, and had no problems.
The difference for me I think is that Ii was using a dog?
We also hut some very close cover up here in Northern Alberta, but the dog is invaluable when it comes to very tight bush.
Cat

It is all about the dogs cat. Once you have an upland hunting dog it is too dangerous not to wing shoot imo
No dog one grouse take the britts and one limit :)
Cheers

Up to about 20 yards the open cylinder bore is fine, but I find the modified choke to be the most versatile for hunting. With a modified choke you can aim a bit high if they're close and hit them in the head, and you have enough pellets in the pattern to make long shots as well...maybe not quite as far as a full choke, but a good way out.
