Hunting with dogs and trespassing

I get where other posters are coming from saying that you were 'too nice', but I disagree. Although it is your property and you had just been shot at, taking an overly aggressive and confrontational stance would not have helped at all in this case. If I were in your shoes, I probably would've just used my tag on that deer to teach them a bit of a lesson, though I am a bit more petty about these things. All in all, I think you handled the situation well. I would definitely talk with the land-owner who has given these losers permission to hunt his land, and tell him that next time authorities may have to be called.

Shooting one of the dogs would not be warranted IMO. If you want to shoot anything in this scenario, shoot the idiot hunters. (Not really though, since that would just give the Anti's more ammunition against our beloved sport)
 
To tactical870: It all starts with a formal complaint to the local police for trespassing.
Once the attending officer has filed his report with or without charges being laid for trespassing, the simple fact that the trepasser(s) had a firearm(s) in thier possession, it now becomes the business of the provincial CFO. That's how it rolls in rural Alberta.
 
The locals in 63A are special too, so I wouldn't say its outsiders/land renters, and ``people from away.`` Had dogs run the property once, thought of shooting them, but didnt. Property is well posted.

I was going to mention the legality of some of the 'behaviour' in my post but left it out. Some lines were crossed....

I'm sorry to here they ruined your hunt. As for the dogs, I know out of season it is legal to shoot them if they are in pursuit of wild game, and the owners can be charged. I have done this, and witnessed the guy being charged. In season, I would believe you cannot, as it is legal to hunt with dogs. But hunting does not give the owners the right to tresspass. And they would have been on your property for awhile if they met the dogs at that meadow in front of the dogs.

I did not help these guys do anything, I gave one guy a ride to his camp, I have no knowledge of what he did after that. I did not transport the deer, nor do I have any knowledge of who actually tagged or transported the deer.

Sweetheart.... you can not order 45 other opinions removed because you are upset about something someone said! It is not your property to decide it should or should not be removed.......and don't worry about what some people say about your posting...they are just babbling. :p
 
Its better not to share anything of personal importance or nature here. Very few here work in positives only negatives, guys are like wolves. PM the mod to plead your case or get the thread locked are your only choices I fear. Screen capture all postings because sometimes the tread gets deep sixed and infractions given with no evidence for yourself.

Everyone learns this lesson the hard way here so you are not alone.

You did the decent thing so screw the rest of them.
 
I hope this thread reaches the intended recipients. I posted my story here because I was looking for advice/opinions (good or bad) as to what I could have done differently or what I could do in the future if I find myself in a similar situation. I find that given the situation I conducted myself as calmly and respectfully as I could. I obviously made some mistakes in the opinions of some here, which I greatly appreciate you all pointing out. I also am appreciative of the positive posts I received. I will be speaking to the actual owner of the property and expressing my concerns to him. He is a good man and I am sure we will come to a resolution.
