Hunting with hearing aids

Looking to tap into some expertise from those who hunt and wear hearing aids . My 74 year old father in law has definitely diminished hearing. However, he's refused to look into getting hearing aids because he is convinced he won't be able to hunt if he has them. I'm guessing that today's top hearing aids must have noise cancelling technology or something similar? Any information I could pass along would be appreciated.
I think noise cancelling is more money IIRC.
Some folks just don't like the idea of wearing hearing aids, and that might be what his problem really is. My mother finally got my father to get a set, but I didn't even know he had them until she told me 20 years after he died. He stuck them in a drawer and refused to wear them. She said they made him feel old, and thought people were looking at him when he had them on.

I am in that category of not wanting to wear them, however there is no denying they will improve your hunting experience and that they do not amplify the shot noise. I will need to take my own advice sometime:)
