hunting with newborn

Just seem like the OP could be putting the infant in unnecessary risk to go bag a deer. If the wife really wants to shoot a deer it might be easier to leave the infant with someone while they go on the hunt.
Just my 2 cents

babies cry, babies get sick, rain pours, snow blows, babies get cold, people fall, break limbs, get lost...

whats this got anything to do with hunting?

I might be new to hunting, but I am not new to any of the risks of life you just mentioned.

gas to the woods and back $15, shotgun ammo $3.50. give a butcher half the meat to do his thing....
seems like I get a freezer full of meat for under $20.
what costs am i missing? (please understand the difference between current expense and capital expenditure if you want to talk cost accounting)

First off, you are forgetting butcher costs. That's a couple hundred bucks For a whitetail, my elk was $900.
Second, hunting with a baby will bring you as much success as standing in the woods yelling profanities at the dear. The make a ton of noise and babies have all kinds of scents that tip off animals. Babies also don't like sitting still, so that just adds to the fun.

When they are old enough to walk, you can take them on scouting trips with you, just keep them close. Don't expect to get much productive scouting or hunting because most of your focus will be on the kids, but it will still be a fun activity to do with them.

I take my girl scouting, meaning mostly short walks in the woods early in the season, at a few spots, with a little driving between. That way she doesn't get bored of just sitting in one spot waiting in a tree stand.

I'd suggest waiting till the kid is older or you will just go through a lot of frustration that will ruin your hunting experience.

Lol if you have pics there might be some members here who will take her off your hands for a few hunts .

always proud to show off the little lady!

i was hoping to find a guy that would butcher for half the meat.
doesnt work like that?

Knew a doctor who used to take his toddler daughter hunting with him all the time. She rode in a carrier on his back.
Inuit women carry their infants in their amoutiq the specialized parka that has a pouch built into it.
Its your decision. As a responsible, concerned parent, you will make the correct decision.

^^ This

Asking shows responsibility, you'll decide what is "RIGHT FOR YOU" and don't worry about the nay sayers if you decide to bring your baby & if you decide to have her stay home then that is fine too.

what a bubble wrapped society we live in when someone says its 100% retarded.... people worked, traveled and hunted for thousands of years with babies in tow and survived

thanks. and ya, rather than assume i know everything, im asking to see what i havent thought of.

so far i haven't heard anything i didn't already consider.

only real concern i have is hearing protection for the child.

don't really care about not catching anything.

You could hunt with one rifle, trade off carrying the baby with a front or back carrier and holding the rifle... the baby should be dressed warm of course so a toque over his/her ears along with some baby ear muffs should be ok, maybe some cotton in the ears too.

Good for you having a Wife who wants to hunt or is into firearms... my Wife is like that too..... we're the lucky ones here

The infant mortality rate in 1850 was just under 22%. That's damn near one in four children dying.
People lugged around their young because they have to, not because they wanted to. Why is this? Because it's dangerous to have a newborn out in the bush. They're fragile, prone to disease, and completely helpless.

she wants to use shotguns, because she likes the sound of the pump action. i try to get her interested in target shooting by showing her pink .22's... but the only part she likes is when she sees a guy go through a 70 round drum mag in under a minute on youtube.

she's from downtown toronto, but has been obsessed with everything "country" since movin out here to be with me. everything she buys is camo, or john deer. she drives my tractor when it needs moved. we're not actually married YET, but she wants to have a redneck-themed wedding.

its quite the change from her life back in the big smoke as a full time model (runway, print, video)

baby will be in the woods... hunting or not, we are still goin for hikes.

is this forum full of city folk that never been in the woods till they started hunting?

...and i basically lived in my tow truck, so i dont know much about havin a noob around... and since ive never hunted, i dont know anything about hunting. im sure my question sounds retarded to 99% of the people reading it... but please understand i just dont know.

Well with all the crap you're spouting you do apparently know how to deal with newborns and all the circumstances that come with it, you do know about what it takes for successful hunting (not that you care as its your wifes hunt, great attitude btw), you do know the question sounds retarded, and you do still think you're smarter than everyone. You're located in the GTA correct? You can't just take an hour drive out of the city and start driving roads for grouse or deer, it doesn't work like that. All the hunting you're going to be doing is either walking or out of a stand. So my best of wishes to you bringing your shotgun along with a 7 month old under your arm.

Don't try to relate your intelligence and way of thinking to Einsteins. Apples and oranges.

i'm not in the GTA.
i wouldnt fire anything with a noob under my arm.
i am smarter than most.
i might not be as well-versed on hunting or guns as the people here, which is precisely why im here.

Well it all started out as good fun didn't it? But we all know you are trolling here just to get us going, so do you really want us to keep poking you with a stick or do you just want to give it up now?

oh, btw, Tell wifey Halloween isn't for 3 more weeks....

trolling for information, ya.

so far ive got lots of insults, very little actual info.

baby will alert deer to our presence, making hunt unsuccessful
risk of ear damage must be mitigated
all risks of hikes in the woods will be present

have i missed anything else? or can all the actual info be summed up in those 3 statements?

How DARE you! Shes a model!
