hunting with only the basics

Well - if your going to go at it with a spear, you better pick up a decent loincloth. Perhaps something in Goretex with leopard spots....
BIGREDD's idea about the pit has merit - I remember seeing a duster with Richard Widmark (Indianfighter?) where he buries himself in the desert sand and attacks the out-of-control natives with great success!

spears are soooooooooooo passe..
get a gillie suit,then a deer crossing sign..
sharpen up one side of the sign to give a nice edge..
stand still on a good deer trail..
when the deer see,s the sign..sure as pigs like slop..
it will come over to cross to the other side
as soon as its within distance.....swing that sign like a you wanna chop off a deers head..
then just do it
..

Search your local library. In days of old, Elk and other large game were killed with a pack of hunting dogs, and a long hunting knife, once the animal was brought to bay.
Knife of not, if the anti's get hold of you doing it, you won't last long.

Spear hunting was specifically outlawed in Saskatchewan when some ahole filmed a couple videos about killing bears over bait, hunting from treestands with a spear. Their skill was sorely lacking. It wasn't humane, and the producers seemed to be really proud about finally pinning a writhing bear to the ground with a spear though its guts. All game animals deserve a quick death, not stunts. If you're really competent with a spear, and it's legal, go for it. But make sure your skills are up to the task.
