Hunting with your departed Dad's gun.

I take my grandfathers cooey 84 12g out some times. I never met him as he died when my mom was 11 (1973) but i have heard many stories of him and was given his only " rifle" by my uncle.

I have the only 3 guns my Grandpa owned a model 60 Cooey with a split stock and sawed off wood screw repair,a Cooey 84 12ga single shot that I shot ruffies, pheasants and huns with last fall and a 1894 round barrel 38-55 that I'd like to poke a moose with.During WW2 when you couldn't get centerfire rifle ammo the Cooeys kept the family in venison. You used what you had to keep your family alive.I lost a 24 year old son to suicide two years ago and I can't hunt without wishing he was with me again.I take his Savage 24 .22/.410 out for grouse and think of happier times. He lived and breathed the outdoors. There is nothing worse for a parent than to outlive your children.

I hunt a lot with my grandfathers gun a Bruno zg47 in 30-06 which was handed down to me when he died, I was only old
Enough to hunt with him for a few years before he passed, I take it out every year usually get a deer with it every year. Makes me happy thinking about all the things he took down with it and now I get to do the same

This rifle was my Dad's prized possession...so prized in fact that when he gave my brother and I choice of any one of his rifles for my 16th birthday (not sure how that little bastard keeps getting gifts on my birthday!) and he laid them all out on his workbench, both my brother and I knew that neither of us should pick it! I was lucky enough to secure it when my brother and I divided up Dad's guns a few years after he passed away. Unfortunately I am, at present, an "eastern woods whitetail hunter" which makes a full-sized 7mm Weatherby somewhat excessive. Now, if my draws hit or if I manage to secure permission on any of the larger ag areas in central NS it will definitely get the call. As for now I have a little custom Mauser, also one of Dad's, in 7x57. It's just so nice to carry through the bush and handle in the blind that it makes sense that it gets the call (though my hunting partner keeps trying to steal it from me because it makes his Model 7 feel like a fence post with a gas pipe bolted to it). I also used Dad's old Sako 30-06 to take a deer here a couple of years ago. And if I manage to meet any guys that like to walk up pheasants or grouse (hint hint guys...I'm a damned nice fellow!) I'll damn sure be carrying either Dad's mystery German double or his Browning Superposed 20 gauge.

Clearly, I have some guns to get into the field!

I am lucky to have a number of my dads guns and while I often have better suited options to hunt with, in a way it feels like he is still with me when i carry one of his rifles.

A beauty to say the least and I'm sure if anyone will put it to good use, it'll be you.

My dad has not departed this world, but with PSP, he has departed the woods for good... I am going to take a meat doe later this fall with his prized '77 BLR .308... he bought that new hang-mag BLR .308 the year that I started deer hunting, and passed my grandfather's M94 .32 Win Spl on down to me... the Winny was up to the task that first opening day out with five deer down... all of which, my dad topped with his new BLR .308 and a dandy 12 point buck. I think he will get a kick out of seeing his BLR posed on yet another whitetail... he has taken many nice bucks with that rifle... stories that he loves to recount, when I help him with speaking.
