Where are they today? I have heard there are 4 of the original 5 made still extant.

Confirmed:

Citadel: Serial No. 1

Seaforths: Serial No. 2

The Canadian War Museum has one for sure. I have heard they may have a second one.

The Seaforth Highlanders have one, and it went overseas to France in WW1.

I have heard rumour that one is in the US.

Any other thoughts?

The Seaforth Highlanders one isn't on display and hasn't ever been as far as I know, but this will be changing with the move back into the Burrard Armoury. So the Citadel having one and it not being on display is plausible.

If there is one in the Citadel, I didn't see it when I was there this past summer.

Like i said thats what wiki says

not to patronize but only about a third of the artifacts of any museum is on full time viewing

I used to volunteer my time at a military museum .......the stuff they had there not on display was insane but of little interest to the general public

A third is being generous! There is so much we have in our archives that will only ever be seen by dedicated researchers because although it as cool as heck we don't have the space to display it, and like you said shortandlong, it's mostly not relevant to the general public.

Years ago, at the old CWM, I saw a Huot on display with some other firearms. Not identified as such. I wrote, and told them what it was. They knew, just hadn't posted a correct display card. Send me a glossy of another Ross conversion, the one with the cooling fan system.

The Seaforth one has a barrel shroud that extends beyond the muzzle, so the muzzle blast draws cooler air through it from the open end at the action which cools the barrel.
