Im replacing the safety on this bolt and somehow ive taken a wrong turn , ive got the cocking piece off and the safety replaced and cant go further. what seems as simple a depressing the plunger and unscrewing the shroud but isnt'. Ive put the safety in different positions. should it be out completely ? The shroud will not move . Any video ive watched makes this look easy but its really a pita.

Ideas ?

I'm not clear at what stage you are at. It sounds like you took the cocking piece off without removing the bolt sleeve. But I don't know how you could have done that.

The order of operations is:

1 - #### the action, put the safety in the "on but bolt will open" position;
2 - depress the shroud plunger and unscrew from the sleeve. You may need to help the plunger again on the 2nd turn to get it past the bolt handle;
3 - place the assembly upright in a block of sorts, pin down. Push the shroud down firmly until you can remove the cocking piece by turning it 90 degrees, thus liberating it from the keys;
4 - release pressure on the shroud, slowly and the whole thing will come apart.

Reverse the procedure for reassembly.

Where are you in the above sequence?

Correct on your first line.

It was a little while back but I took the cocking piece off for some unknown reason trying to get the the safety. (pulled and turned) now I can either try to get the cocking piece back on (failed) but I figured I should just finish stripping the bolt and re-assemble normally ? (failed again lol)

It also looks like im one turn forward since firing pin is sticking protruding quite a bit.

This whoel thread made me say "Oh f*ck" right out loud. In front of my kids. I hope you get it figured out.

And BTW, I blamed you for the slip. Now you're in sh*t with my wife! :D

Still confused. You have the shroud screwed on to the sleeve, but no cocking piece installed? Post a picture.

Wow. So you managed to compress the firing pin spring while screwing the shroud onto the sleeve. Basically, you have a de-cocked bolt assembly, but no cocking piece attached. Gnarly.

Maybe someone else has a better idea, but I'd be looking for a way to pull the firing pin back enough so that you can depress the plunger and unscrew the shroud. Like a slip-knot around one of the keys, tied to something big and heavy.

####ty aint it ?

I think you might be onto something because as is now the shroud aint going nowhere and it makes sense that I would would want to move the keys back to where they should be had I left the cocking piece on...some lessons are learned the hard way..:redface:

It takes two hands and a vice.

While holding the bolt in a vice, pull the firing pin to the rear and hold it there while depressing the plunger and unscrewing the shroud... all the time holding the firing pin to the rear... when it becomes fully unscrewed everything will come flying back quickly...

damn it was hard enough to do while holding on to a glass of Scotch..never mind video taping without a tripod :D. I think I embarrassed myself enough already !

Off to shoot a few groups with it on the weekend !
