I bought this rifle from TEC. They called it a M96 commercial. What is the husky model number? It looks like a 648 but the safety is different than those pics here. Thanks

What is it chambered for? And what is the s/n? Mask the final 2 digits with an x if you don't want to make it public.

It looks like a 640 model but hard to say from the picture alone. Husky started using the M98 action in the 640 model rifles but switched back to the M96 type action during WW2 when FN became unavailable to supply M98 actions.

The safety on these rifles was quite commonly changed from the factory wing safety to a "low swing" safety when a scope was mounted. Lots of the husky rifles had aftermarket safeties installed. Some used the "low swing" and some were converted to a side safety.

It's a model 648. Husqvarna made the 640 type from 1944 to 1953. S/n 88### was made approximately in 1946. Some of them were based on the FN98 action and some were built on the M96/38 action when the Belgian firm Fabrique National was unable to supply M98 actions during and immediately following WW2. Your rifle is one of the M96/M38 derivatives.

The action is basically the same as the Swedish military M38 carbine and Model 96 Rifle, except that the thumb cutout is probably not present.

Just a little precisoin on 640's.

The early 640's S/N range includes some rifles made on M/46A/B stocks, but they are only barreled in 6.5X55.
The M/98 were not really availlble before 1946, probable hitting the market somewhere in '47.
HVA used the M/98 in the '37 to '41 period for their models 146 and 246), then, late / after '46, when they became availlable again.
After '41 until '45 (1945 for the 46A and officially 1943 for the M/46B), they supplied M/38 actions to the civilian and this, until the FN action becaeme availlable (M/46A, M/46B, M/46AN). The M/640 was availlable from 1944.

Large ring or small ring, that will tell you whether it is an FN action or not, easily.

He has already said it is a M96 commercial action. That is not M98 or FN. In 1946 FN was still recovering from the war and unable to supply commercial M98 actions to anyone.
