Hello,

I have this crazy idea to buy a Husky in 30-06 from Tradeex and put a peep sight on it.

My options for rifles include:
Drilled and tapped
Drilled and tapped with weaver base
not drill and tapped.

Any suggestion for peep sights?

What would be the smartest way to do this?

thanks!

XS Sights make both high and low Weaver mount ghost rings that would fit on the Husky.

Ive seen pictures a nice little peep sight that Husqvarna made for the 1600 action, that mounted directly onto the rear of the receiver utilizing the scope mount screw holes. Try as I might, I've never seen on for sale though.

The appropriate Lyman and Williams receiver sights can also be mounted on the 1600.

Its not a crazy idea, its a great one. I put a peep on my model 1640 6.5x55 from Tradeex. Any peep designed for a commercial mauser 98 action will work. I have used the Williams WGRS-FN model which attaches to the 1/2" spaced holes on the rear reciever bridge. The side of the rear bridge is also drilled and tapped for a reciever sight, the Williams FP-98-TK sights utilize these side holes, as will any older reciever sight made for a mauser 98 action (the hole spacing is standard).

I only used the WGRS as it still allowed me to use the quick detach side mount for a scope without interferance, if you're going for a peep only I recomend the Williams FP model or an older Redfield or Lyman peep.

The 1640 series are drilled and trapped for receiver sight AND for Weaver bases. Those NOT d&T are the uncommon 1640K model.
The Lyman 48 (steel) was a very common sight in those days, but there are also a variety of Swedish "indigenous" models - most of the time hard to get - you can find that will fit the 1640 (wich sometimes will also require re-d&t the receiver for).
