Hi Nutz, I was looking at picking up a Husqvarna 640 ser# range 105### locally but it has that wing safety at the rear of the bolt. It has been drilled and tapped and I was wondering if anyone can tell me what kind of height for scope rings are required to clear the wing to get a full swing of the safety? Looks like the wing is quite high and haven't found any definitive information on the subject. If the rifle has or would be converted to the low Buehler? style wing, would a low scope mounting be able to be used then? Most of the optics I like to use are leupold VX2 or 3's with 40mm lens.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Joel

If you get an aftermarket safety lever (which clears the scope, usually two positions), you should make it with a set of Weaver Grand Slam High rings (.400") and assorted bases (#45 and #46).
Using Leupold base(s), you should be OK with Medium (0.270") rings.

Yes, as in Buehler style. You can also replace the whole bolt shroud with a modified one w/ safety, but it's more expensive.
