I had a thought of a cheap lightweight woods rifle in 9.3x57 problem is my vision sucks and I can no longer use open sights. Has anyone mounted a small micro red dot on one? What mounting system gets the lowest mounting?
Would the front reciever location be able to be milled to take a red dot mounting plate for a pistol?
I dont have the rifle but id like the dot to be in view with a solid cheeckweld level with or just slightly above what the factory sights would provide. I realize machining a flat section would likely cost more than the rifle itself but the idea interests me

That's my concern. The height of the rail plus the reddot base putting the dot to high. Not having the rifle yet im not sure. Was hoping someone has had one done up this way. Doesn't need to be a 9.3x57. And chamberi g would work. Im just interested primarily in 9.3x57 to share components with my 9.3x62

I put a red dot (vortex crossfire) on my REM 700 375 h&h
I bought a Burris picatiny rail and mounted the red dot towards the front of the action
The crossfire sits higher so I don’t exactly have a solid cheekweld but it works good so far
My vision isn’t so good either so that’s why I thought I’d try the red dot but I’m not sure how long the crossfire will last with the recoil of the 375 h& h I might have to buy a better red dot for it
