Husqvarna/Gustaf rifles - New Rifle Build Question

I have a 7mm and love it!! After reading 264's post I believe it is a 8000 (HVA Car Gustaf, clean bbl, engrave pl.) I had no idea what it was worth as there is very little info on them and was given to me by my uncle. I have shot it for over 10 years and I'm thrilled with it's performance. I just started reloading 2 years ago and it shoots even better than it did with Fed Prem. (which was very good). Topped it off with a Zeiss and now it's my favorite! I'd say get it if it's the same model, you won't be dissapointed.
 
HVA and Gustav

I have 3 of these rifles. An 8000 HVA in 7mm Mag and 2 Gustavs one one 300 WM and a .270. The action is smooth as silk and accuracy is under 1" @ 100 yards with all 3. I also have a Sako deluxe and the Sako action although smooth can't compare. The wood is beautiful on all 3 so they don't get used that often but selling them, I've thought about it but when I take them out and look at them, I put them back on the rack..

I was looking around on the tradeexcanada website and husqavarna sporters built on 96's and 98's seem to be very reasonably priced. Was wondering if many people have experience with these rifles and how well can a person expect these guns to shoot without any mods? (directly from tradeex in other words), also is there much in the way of factory ammo available for a 9.3x57. I have seen 9.3x62 factory loads available (lapau (sp.) I believe? very pricey).

Thanks SPW, it was by far my favorite of the three Husky's I've had the pleasure to carry. And yes, it was nailed with the rifle just as you see it. The rifle was in origonal form. The irons are very good, if only the front sight was driftable so it could be exchanged with another one. They are regulated for a heavy bullet going quite slow, my load was shooting quite high. I missed the first shot because of it. As you can see I remembered to hold low for the second and it connected quite well.:D
Range was about 150 yards.

If it helps you at all, I've had three Husky's, two scoped that would shoot MOA and this Iron sighted one I could get an 1 1/2" group at 100 yards, shooting off one knee. They are very good shooters. Make sure you glass bed the action though, I didn't realize it until I got home that the tang had cracked while I was on the Moose trip.:( I relieved the tang, but the rear action screw was taking the brunt of the recoil.:( :( :(

My 9,3x62 is at the smithy as we speak, getting two cross bolts put in and a glass job. I've learned my lesson!

thank you Noel, that provides some more insight for me. I was just having a hard time comprehending why such a quality rifle (besides the lack of bedding which causes cracks) were selling for such low costs. I just might have to get in on one of these.

You might want to try one in 8x57 mauser lots of ammo still out there. And if you reload the 8mm is equal to the 30/06.
 
8x57J is the origonal design with a .318 bore. I forget exactly why but they changed to the JS version (.323" bore) somewhere along the way. If you get a real old rifle it is likely best to get the bore dia. checked.
This is also the reason why factory ammo for the 8mm sucks so bad. They backed the loads off in case someone accidentally shoots the .323" JS loads in older J bore barrel.

Another reason they backed the loads off is because of all the old actions still chambered for this round. The 7x57 is in the same ballpark.The only company I can think of that loads full factory for these two is Norma,and I can just imagine the price of a box of these.
