Last time I looked on the Tradeex website (a couple of weeks ago), IIRC there were no 1640's in 6.5 x 55. There may be older Huskys in that calibre.

HVA never had license to produce 98 actions only 94/96 ones. They used FN for the 98s. Prior to 1941,when they started to make their own actions,they used ones from CG. The HVA 1600 is an Improved Mauser Action.
The FN98 action (Fabrique Nationale) from Belgium is one of the best quality '98 actions ever made. Several rifle manufacturers used their actions, can't go wrong there. The HVA 1600 series as mfg. by Husqvarna is an improved small-ring action, ####-on-opening bolt and streamlined bolt stop. Very well made and reliable as the come. Tradeex has several to choose from at very good prices.

What do you want to hunt? Do you handload?
The 30-06 is easiest to get a wide range of commercial ammo if you don't handload. 6.5x55 is fine for just about anything on this contenent, except maybe for grizzly. In Europe, they consider the 6.5x55, with heavy round nose bullets, a great moose cartridge.
I have a 1600 barreled action in 6.5x55 (from Tradex) that is awaiting a stock.
6.5x55 is my choice for anything!! 
. Nice caliber to shoot, but like sandroad said, you pretty much have to reload for it. And if you do can shoot anything from yotes to moose. If not Hornady and a few other still make ammo for it usually in 140grns which is devastating on deer and good enough for moose with proper shot placement, which is easy with the mild recoil from 6.5x55. Good luck finding a 1600 in 6.5 right now though I've been looking for another . The 06 is great all around caliber and there's lots of them in 1600 from tradex. Quite a bit more recoil than a 6.5 though. Just my .02

Quite a bit more recoil than a 6.5 though. Just my .02FN98 is a bit heavier. A 1600 is a small ring mauser in large ring length. They are both excellent choices though. Never had or shot an 8mm so can't speak to that. It's all really personal choice when it comes to those two choices. I would choose the 1600 they're a pretty smooth action when loaded and with a little tweaking of the trigger ,oh my!! Jeez now I'm gonna have to find another, look what you've done!! Kidding go with the 06 1600 and you'll never regret it. Change the stock if you want to a boyds large ring laminate and bed the action and bobs your auntie!!
