Hi guys! need some help im looking for very good-excellent condition M98 (for re-barrelling project) action and cheap cause im poor :redface: I know argentinian mausers are the best, but price is high and they are hard to get, and id probably wouldn't be capable of running beautiful gun for bubajob, basically looking for good M98 action but don't know which one would suit best for that purpose, i've read commercial "Huskys" are have good metal and machining, would they be a good chose or the might be a something else that is better, im currently looking at Tradeex selectoin and i'm stumbled at the selection :confused:
 
all there rifles in the hunting rifle section at tradeex would be good for projects. if you pick one with a top mounted scope, you might be ahead of the game ,if your going that way.
 
E; Perhaps if we knew more about your "project" we could give you more informed advice. As far as best Mauser, that mostly depends on a personal preference point of view.
Having said all that you won't go wrong with a Husky 98, it's a good strong action and depending on your "project" the cheapest way is to buy a complete rifle and enjoy / keep what you need and sell the rest. Look at the Husky #### on this site to see what's available. FWIW --- John303.
 
E; Only a suggestion mind you - to each his own. You should consider a 96 in 6.5x54, a cartridge that's IMHO hard to beat in its class (for around $300 or less for a good rifle). Tradeex has several you can just buy & enjoy / set the barrel back if necessary and re-chamber if it just has to be a 6x47. Tradeex also has new 6.5 barrels for the 96 / they should fit any small ring, small thread Mauser with minor alteration. --- John303.
 
Well OK - There are two variants of the FN actions used by Husqvarna. The newer variant may be better for you - they were already D+T'd and didnt have the charger bridge hump.

Many of the m/96 sporter rifles available from Trade-Ex are already drilled and tapped, with bases mounted, have the bolt handle bent, and even side safeties.

If you really "have to rebarrel" i would look at one of the m/96 Husqvarna Commercial actions. They have a solid left sidewall with no thumb cut. Most of them are 8x57 Calibre, but you could always sell the take off barrel on the EE and recoup a bit of your expenses. The stocks on these rifles are a bit more "fuller" and have slightly more wood in the foreend area than the older ones with the splinter type stocks. They are available in the $200-$250 range.
