Husqvarna Sporting Rifles #### - ALL MODELS!!!

Well, what they used on the magnum models for buttpads were pretty much like the Pachmayr F325 with the white line spacer. The vast majority of soft pad you may see are aftermarket items, as per HVA mostly sold their products with solid buttplates.

Dear Husqvarna hivemind, help!

I bubba'd my scope rings. I bought a new scope for my HV 1640, and tried to take out the screws on my old rings so that I could just pop it in (both scopes have a 1" tube), because the mounts are a skinny little dovetail. At any rate, the screws cammed out (set in there with the gunk of ages). I tried to drill them out, not realising the rings were 'luminimumumumum, and chowdered them all to #### as I drilled out the screws.

I'm thinking of taking off the mounts and replacing them with something more modern like weaver mounts (I have new weaver Zee rings) or a rail. Any suggestions?

Previous posts suggest a weaver #55 and #46 set, but looking at the spacing - Leupi mounts with Mauser FN spacing seem to fit. There are also numerous rails available, but I don't know which one will fit, and I don't want to order uber-expensive stuff from Yourp.

This rifle is drilled for a side mount but not a receiver mount. Most 1640 rifles come drilled and taped from the factory. Is it on common to find one that isn’t drilled and taped

Which model of rail is it? I'm considering one for my Husky. Did you have to mod the rail in any way, or was it an out-of-the-box fit?
The product is a Contessa Picatinny Rail for Antonio Zoli 1900 (20 MOA), part number PH05/20 from Opticstrade.eu.

I didn't have to modify it at all. Bolted on, right out of the package with the included screws.

The rep for Contessa USA told me that they won't be making a new production run until mid-Sept and most retailers are out of stock for the 20 MOA model. That means you might have to wait a couple months before new stock becomes available.

Did anyone realise that Husqvarna rifles are addictive? Baribal, I blame you. You should have said :D

So, I just put my Howa 1500 in 30-06 on consignment... and ordered a Husky 1900 in 6.5 Swede. That sweet Mauser action is just too good.

Yeah, I saw that. But to paraphrase Colonel Kurtz "The price... The price!"

It's true, they are. I bought myself a 1640 in 6.5x55 a few years ago, liked it so much I now have one for each of my boys and they're only 9 and 11!

I paid $159.86 up front and then another $19.23 in customs fees.

Yes, very pricey. But there were four features that were really important to me:

1. A one piece rail.
2. 20 MOA elevation
3. Build quality (not made of chinesium)
4. Something if not Scandinavian, then at least European.

Plan B was to buy an old school Leupold mount and rings.

Yeah. Chinesium's a pretty crappy element.

I just got some Weaver bases and they came in today. I'll try to fit them on tomorrow night.

The rifle is a 1640K, this was a lower end model, without checkering, most, but not all, have beech stocks, a lot have "sandblasted" blued finish, usually they are not high luster blue, but some have the polished finish....

The FN98 mounts won't fit a 1640, as per one is a large ring the other a small ring. The M94/96/38 one piece won't fit neither, as per they are shorter than the 1640 action.

Thanks Baribal for the reply, the rifle as a nice finish and appeared to have been very lightly used .will the M98 side mount fit the 1640 or will it need the m96 small ring side mount

I can't say, really, as per there are more than one sidemounts made in the days. But the most common ones are interchangeable. You will need a Swedish made mount for sure to fit those holes, though....

Got a question for the people who hand load 6.5 Swedish for the Husqvarna 1640.

I had planned on fitting a bullet into an empty casing (no powder or primer) at 81mm total length and then chambering it my rifle. After ejecting, I would measure from the ogive to determine my ideal COL.

Unfortunately, in the great tradition of gunsmiths, they are going to be late in getting the rifle back to me, so I won't be able to do this tonight. We have a range day planned for Saturday, and tonight is going to be the only opportunity to make my ammunition.

Using the Sierra 140gr HPBT bullet, Vihtavuori gives an OAL of 79mm. Hodgdon Varget using the same bullet calls for 76.962mm. That's quite the difference.

What has been the experience of other 1640 shooters of 6.5 Swedish? What OAL have you found works best in this rifle?
