Hey all, I’m wondering if anyone knows where I can find a resource for identifying the date of manufacture for a Husqvarna 6.5x55 Mauser with the serial number 681695?
I bought the rifle as a teenager and used it to hunt deer quite successfully for half a dozen seasons. Just got back into shooting after a twenty year hiatus and the old gun still works great. It’s obviously been sporterized but still has the machining to attach a bayonet. Would be interested in knowing more about its history.

Your rifle is/was a military M38. It should be stamped 1943. Best advice would be to check for books like "The Swedish Mauser Rifles" by Kayaha / Poper (available online for free) or the "Crown Jewell" which would be a hardcopy (maybe hard to find)

Hello, I recently picked up what I believe is a Crown model 3000 in 243 Win. Is the 243 a less common chambering in an HVA?

Your rifle probably started as a 3000 Crown Grade or a 1640 MC and had the barrel replaced, the stock was also worked on, as per the rosewood fore end noses were squared, the round ones were plastic, not rosewood.
There should have the SN electro-penciled under the bolt lever. The serial and proof (NITRO) was initially stamped on the left side of the barrel.

Hi Baribal,I’ve owned several husqvarnas and as a family we all use our huskies,The one caliber I can’t find any info on to see if husky made this caliber and this is the 338wm and this is I beleive in the crown with the rosewood forensic,I’ve seen the crown in a 300wm but not the 338 wm,Did they in fact make this 338 in the crown ,I’m looking at one but the 338wm is punched in in an angle so I’m unsure,thanks much

Yes, they've been chambered in .243 Win, imported by Tradewinds. It is one of the less common caliber for the 1640 line.
Pics and SN would be the way to determine how original it is.

They did not chamber rifles in .338 WM and the 300 WM was only introduced with the 1900 serie.
The 1640 where officially chambered in two magnum calibers, 7mm Rem Mag and .358 Norma Mag. There is one .308 Norma Mag that may likely have been made by HVA but there is no records, but the rolled stamps seems to prove it.
Barrel stamping font is one way to tell if the rifle was alterned.

There are no official or published numbers on caliber specific production for the 1640 series. The average production is based on observation records.

Was the trigger guard refinished ? If not, then, it's barely used... The alloy trigger guards are prone to nicks...

This is a 1640 I bought this past year. 30-06 and I had not reloaded for those before. It has been good to work with.

Got this one coming in. Haven’t seen any with this stock other than old ads calling it a “hi-power”. It’s in 270 win. Not sure if it’s been refinished but it looks to be in nice shape.

Twas I! 10 or so coats of tru oil. Corlane’s did the decelerator and scope mounting
