Are Husqvarna rifles just better built .. more accurate or just more desirable than Zastava rifles ; because you can not buy a new Husqvarna.
I am looking at a Husqvarna model 1600 that is in very good condition and it the same price right to the dollar as a brand new Zastava rifle ,,.. Same caliber

Tradeex much? I've yet to handle a Husky but by all accounts they are a good rifle. The Zastavas are a decent gun as well but some seem to need refining out of the box. Some rough edges and whatnot, just needs a little polishing and smoothing. I'd say both will be perfectly good for hunting purposes.

Been on trade ex a few times and they have a lot of 1600's for sure .. Right in the 595 dollar range .
A brand new Zatava is 595 dollars ..
You can get it with wood stock and blue barrel or synthetic stock and stainless steel barrel .
595 dollars any way you look at it ..
Or you can buy a used Zastava for 350 versus 600 for a used husqvarna both rated very good .
Or a husqvarna in good condition for 500

Gun store about two hours from me has a real nice husky model 1600 in 6.5x55 .. Rated very good .. 100% original
I think I am just going to buy it ..
Had to ask why a similar gun also built on the mauser 98 action was the same price new as a husky used though

I like my Zastava Mannlicher 308, it is a very good shooter, very well made rifle, Tradex got the Zastava for under 400.00 very good deal for quality... JP.

What's your budget, caliber choice and purpose. I've bought several rifles from Tradex. My latest purchase was a Swedish M96 Mauser sporter in 6.5x55mm. It cost $250.00 add tax and delivery and you've got a great hunting or target rifle on the cheap.

Do you like Swedes or Serb? I would prefer to give my money to support industry in a country where no Canadian troops have died keeping the peace. None have died in Sweden, 23 Canadians died in the various parts of the Former Yugoslav Republic.

Husqvarna, no question. Better Swedish steel with higher amounts of Chromium and Vanadium in the barrels. I have a 640 model built on an FN Commercial 98 receiver, and the fit & finish is excellent. The bolt is smooth and locks up tight. Pride of ownership and it's real accurate with the express iron sights out to 200m smacking a gong with 200 gr of 8mm.

I served in bosnia and own 3 zastavas... Once you are done peacekeeping duty the country you leave begind needs continued support or the deaths and service were for nothing....

As for quality, either rifle will be a strong performer... Just cycle the bolt while you have a pint and watch tv... Lol

My budget is not limited to 600 dollars by no means .. I want a 6.5x55 that is accurate and plan on putting a scope on it for coyote hunting. I am looking at having a 200 yard gun ...as that is pretty much the limit of range I would have in hay fields etc. Then I would also have a 200 yard deer rifle ::??
I have never hand loaded but I have done a pile of research on this caliber. I am reading it is accurate with factory loads and even better with hand-loads. If I get a husky or zastava they will handle hotter loads than if I get the older military rifles in 6.5x55. And some of the older mauser are not tapped for a scope anyway..

Take a look at the rem 799 if you can find one... Mini mauser action dropped in a boyd's stock and stamped rem... Mine is a tack driver and they are drilled and tapped with bases available... (Mine wears a vortex diamondback)...

A friend USED to have a model 70 Winchester in 6.5x55 (deadly accurate ) He had a 2.5 x10 x50 scope on it and yotes at 200 yards were dead .... The Winchester 6.5x55 are close to impossible to find now along with the REM 799.... and the 6.5x55 was built in the Model 700 Remington one or two years too but hard to find one of those too .
I am on firearms Canada
I am on Canada Gun runners
I am on Ontario gun runners
Now on Gun nutz
AND I have seven different used gun dealers book marked too .. including trade ex .. There is LOTS and LOTS of husqvarna 1600's on there
MAYBE when I am allowed to get on the classifieds here I will have one more option too

#`1-because Husqvarnas are no longer made > collectability enters into the picture
#2-as mentioned-Zastavas are not as "refined" (read well finished) as Husky's-the basic design on both is excellent-and both will shoot very well

All the recent Remington Mausers were actually made by Zastava and rebranded for Remington.

The 798 had the real mauser action and the 799 had a mini mauser action ..
but either way both these models are hard to come by...
By most of the looking I have done . If you are wanting a 6.5x55 .... Trade Ex has a lot of Husky 1600 model rifles..
They have a few other brands like CZ too
Or you can buy a new Zastava for the same money; or very close .
The stainless with synthetic stock is about 20 -30 dollars more than a used husky

My opinion for what it's worth. The husqvarna will have a smoother action as it should as it has been cycled many time. The stock will probably fit better with better quality checkering if it is not gouged up. The Zastava has a better trigger that is easily adjusted-save you the cost of an aftermarket trigger. The comb on the Zastava is better suited for a scope. The floor plate release is really slick and easy to operate. The Zastava will have a new barrel that may or may not be more accurate than the Hus. But it will probably last longer depending on the number of rounds thru it. Stock on the Zastava is easy to strip and refinish.
I bought the Zastavafor in 9.3x62 for the above reasons but mainly because I could get it in Left handed.
