I a newbie to reloading..what loads to use for my M-14? what should the case trim be? im using varget powder whats a good grain amount for the M-14?, i have 150 gr FMJ bullets and once fired .308 brass and will be using a full length lee .308 die.

Case trim would be ok at same as .308 Win 2.005" min/ 2.015" max.
I have used IMR 4895, 4064, H4895 and Win 748 with the bullet style you have. I would start at the starting load in your manual for .308/150gr bullet and go from there for your powder (43gr - 47gr max in my book for Varget)

im not a retard i have a few lol ive loaded other calibers.. reloading for the m-14 is different than any old 308 thats why i started this thread
try pulling up"7.62 match loads" by zediker- that should give you an IDEA of where to start- or m14 match loads- there's niuances to the m14 that there isn't with any "standard " 308- and watch the 175 grain limit- i can tell you from experience, using 175s, that 42 grains of 748 won't cut it( not enough gas) and you need to pretty well duplicate the recommended load of 43.9-44 - the gas system starts working reliably at 43.5- yet the reloading manual starts off at 42 and goes as high as 46 .5( speer no 11) that's the kind of nuiances i'm talking about- it took me YEARS to develop loads that would group a quarter at 100 yards using 5 shot groups off a bench- but that was over 4 different rifles

Reloading for Semi-Auto 's , you better be reloading for Bolt-Action's first -my 2cts
waste of time and money-you read the manuals first, then develop your loads according to the rifle you're using- the action is IRRELEVANT- the THEORY is the same for all reloading- and if you start on a bolt, and switch to a semi, you've lost all that time and money you COULD have been using on a semi- the bolt/switch thing works on 22, but doesn't travel over into the cf world- from what i can gather from the op, he's already been down THAT road with 22, and needs help with reloading for cf/m14
