Lee hardness tester works well if you use it with a good light source. It can be really hard to see the scale on the scope in less than perfect light conditions ( like your garage at night) or for people with less than perfect eyesight.
You can get some inconsistent readings when you first start using this tester since there is some "feel" and technique involved.
Read the instructions - most people don't realize how long they are supposed to hold the point against the bullet and they get high readings as a result.
Take 2-3 readings to make sure you're consistent. It's very repeatable with some practise. I like it and you can't beat the price.
Home made weights dropping in freefall can give relative hardness. The trick is to calibrate this over time with known samples. Science #####es! Its for everyone
I picked up an LBT tester a few years back, more money, but, simpler to use than the Lee or Cabine Tree. And it works plenty good enough for the purpose.
