I am new hunter,please help

just got my hunting license and small game tag last week:redface: I wonder if there are something I have to consider before I go to hunting area to shoot small game:p for example,I learned most of WMU belongs to landowner,how can I contact them for getting permission?
 
the point is ,how do I know which area is private or public and how can I get the permission to get in private land.
 
i didnt think that small game was a big deal to hunt.... i go out into the woods the other day and i could of filled the truck with rabbits and grouse ....if it was open season maybe your using the wrong small game calls...

if your in ontario specificly eastern ontario the MNR has a
"eastern ontario ourdoor recreation map" it shows what is crown land and what is private l;and very handy to have , as for getting into private land first check to make sure that the municipality allows discharg of firearms in the area and then use the time honoured doorbell technique, simply walk up to the owner and ask him POLITLY if you can have permission to hunt on his/her land if they say no thank them for there time politly and move on to another owner and repeat (remember politness is key here) once you have a willing owner to allow use of thier land get them to point out where you can/cant hunt on the land and where you can/cant park your vehicle. make sure you follow these guidlines set forth by the owner. and dont leave garbage there bring out everything you brought in. and yes you will probebly get alot of no's before you find a yes but the yes you do find will be very worth it
 
Hey p226, if you do what signguy says you will find some places to hunt. I hunt deer and wild turkey in southern ontario(WMU's 87,89) , I spent alot of time knocking on doors before I got a YES and it was well worth it. I now have a couple of really good pieces of land to hunt on. Here is a few suggestions for getting permission to hunt on farms. Offer to help the farmer sometime around the farm, if he or she gives you permission. If the farm has livestock, offer to hunt coyotes and gophers, most farmers don't like coyotes and gophers. Always be polite.

If your near a farming community. Go knocking door to door asking if you can shoot crows or groundhogs. Most farmers will let you, since crows eat the crops and groundhogs make holes (which livestock can get a hoof stuck and break a leg). As stated before, ask nicely and don't carry a gun and definately not on a Sunday. (And don't wear your MegaDeath teeshirt; wear something decent).

Important things to mention.
-Build up a relationship before asking for ammo money--like a couple of years. (Some farmers pay for varmint control; you're out for poops and giggles and he don't know you from Jack)
-Ask them what they want with the carcasses. They may want them picked up and buried in a certain spot to avoid coyotes.
-Read, understand and know the current hunting regulations in the area you're hunting.

yes that is a very ipotant thing to remember farmers dont take kindly to people with guns just showing up on there door steps
 
Find someone else to take you out and show you the ropes. Judging by the last few threads you've started it seems like you don't know your a$$ from your elbow when it comes to hunting.

Don't just stumbe out into the field and assume you know what you're doing.
