Hey all,

Well I sure did have a busy day today.

I took 2katz up on his offer to let him show me a few things. I got there close to 2 pm today and man did I ever learn alot. He basically sat me down and explained basically everything about everything. He explained how to do stuff like trim but he also explained what happens if you don't and etc. I brought my own stuff and he took it step by step showing me and explaining alot about each step.

I have learned so much today it is amazing. I would have never learned as much as I did today unless I was reloading for a few years. I wasn't sure about some of the steps but now I know a heck of alot more and I feel pretty confident to make my own loads. He showed me how to use every part of my kits plus a scale that I got for free from PerversPépère.

I can't thank him and his friend enough for what they did today. I wish there were more people like him. If there was then what a world this would be.

Well we worked until about 7:00 I think and I forgot my bullets here but he was generous enough to give me 40 bullets :) So I now have 40 bullets that I made with his help.

It is alot of work to reload. Case preperation was what took the longest but it has to be done so it's worth the work.

I just want to thank 2katz again for everything he did today and if you every need any help with anything, I am there for you.

Hopefully now, some people who care around here will be able to sleep better knowing that I am now a safe reloading who knows what I am doing.


As soon as I get my timmer sizer, I am going to start loading up some accubonds and I think soon I am joining the Burlington Range so I will have a chance to shoot them.

I admire you for not being foolish enough not to ask questions, even if they were to some quite basic. Alot of people will not have the guts to do it. :)

Kudos to 2katz and everyone else that gave you a hand. Maybe someday your turn will come and you will introdce a newbie to reloading :D

I just got a Lee pro 1000 and have it all setup (I hope I did it right)
I think I'll have to find a cheap scale too, got my bullet coming monday :D

It's nice to have someone guide you the first time.

It's very nice to have somebody show you the ropes the first time. I think it would have taken a long time to learn what I did today. It's very nice to know how to properly set up the dies so I have a cproper OAL which was one thing I didn't understand totally.
 
Happy to get you going but this is just the beginning, keep on asking the questions and the only bad question is the one you don't ask. Enjoy and most important have fun and be safe.

I couldnt imagine starting reloading without help!
I had a mentor for a few times before I got my own setup too!

And about the so called "silly" questions, its just how you ask them.

AWESOME! I like reloading almost as much as I like shooting.

Focus on consistency with everything you do (i.e powder charge, trim length etc)

I take a lot of pride in shooting my reloads.

Yeah, I am really glad I just know how everything works properly now. I was worried before making my own bullets but now I don't have any issues or anything.

I am not affraid to ask. Just look at my message history. 80% of my questions are probably weird to alot of you guys but I don't have a single hunter in my family and I am all very new to all of this. Last year at this time, I didn't even have a PAL. Now I can do a whole lot more with alot of thanks to members on this board.

I see whats going on ... he is aready thinking about starting to cast his own bullets now that he has his reloading set up! :p

PS I havnt started reloading myself yet. Dont shoot enough for that yet :(

I think we need some Terminology 101 applied here, Cereal83: "bullet" only applies to the projectile; "cartridge" is the loaded round including case, primer, powder AND bullet.
Glad to see you enjoyed your first reloading session!
Now, some "caveat and tips":
-Never reload while watching TV.
-Never reload with your telephone nearby or somebody is talking to you.
-Always complete a full operation if you have to stop to do something else.
-Never extrapolate between data and components.
-Always check every 10 rounds or so.
-When in doubt, undo what you have done, re-check everything and start again.

lol I didn't accully mean bullets. I think it will be a long time before I accually start making my own bullets.

I don't shoot alot but I wanted to take up reloading because you get better accuracy with your own rounds from what I read. Plus it's another little hobby to take up and I can save some money is the process.

Yeah I am not too worried about asking questions. If I didn't well I probably wouldn't have even gone for my PAL.
 
Big thumbs up Cereal83, I was one of the ones that felt real uneasy on some of your early posts but it sounds like with the help of a few members (kudos to them) you are on the right track. Welcome to the club and you are about to find out how addictive reloading can be
 
Get organized with your notes. Make lots of notes and keep a spreadsheet in Excel with relevant reload info. That way when things go right - you'll know why. And if things don't work :eek:, you'll know why.

Don't forget to keep purchase prices, vendor, and product specific data so you have a detailed history as well.
 
Did the same thing with a knowledgeable mentor 'bout 40 years ago.
Still at it ... .270, .35 Whelen, .25-06, .264 Win Mag., .44 Rem Mag.,
.45-70, 12 ga, 20 ga, .410 and a bunch of others I've moved on from.

Great hobby & pastime.
