I am thinking of a new rifle in 9.3x62

The one I have been looking at is the CZ550. Does anyone have any experience with this rifle or any suggestions on another one in the same price range. I like the wood stock and the controlled round feed action.
 
The CZ 550 is an excellent rifle I used one in 9.3 X 62 to take 6 head of game in Africa a month or so ago. One big advantage is the single set trigger, I use it for the longer shots.
 
The CZ 550 would be my first pick if they made them in left hand.

Be warned though, I've heard that CZ is cheaping out lately and have replaced the bottom metal with plastic.

However, I'm not sure if it was just the floorplate, or the whole lower triggerguard too. But it still isn't a good move in my opinion.

If you buy one, try to find one that is all metal.
 
I like the 550 as well and by all reports it's a great rifle. I'm not a huge fan of the set trigger but I'm sure that is something that a gun plumber with a Brownells catalog could remedy. The Ruger African in 9.3 would be interesting too but I wonder if it's not anted heavy (don't know the advertised weight). I do know that my M98 9.3x62 weighs 7lb 10oz but it's an irons-only rig. Still, under 8lbs ready to hunt is pretty sweet and just right for what I want it for.
 
might want to check out the cz550 carbine with the 20"barrel in the 9.3 caliber. i think it has the kevlar stock on it though.
 
I have the cz 550 lux in 9.3x62 and I feel by all acounts it is an excellent value. The set trigger makes a big difference shooting groups at the range no matter what the nay sayers tell you. It can be completely disabled if you choose and the trigger is fully adjustable. The stock length of pull is quite long with the pad and depending on how tall you are it may not fit you well.
 
Advertised weight of the Ruger African is 7.75 lbs. and IMO it's a gorgeous rifle. Altough I wouldn't turn up my nose at a CZ either. I don't know how Ruger's trigger stacks up compared
to CZ's single set trigger - which I really like. Both the CZ and the Ruger come with a 1:10 twist rate, while Sako and Tikka also offer the 9.3x62 with a 1:14
twist rate. Tikka also offers their stainless varmint in 9.3x62 - apparently they have freakishly large varmints in Finland.d:h:

you re right about LOP 15.8 inches on CZ 550 but the Bavarian hogue stock helps a little and i prefer that version to the straight ones ....

Rugers are pretty nice. I used an African in Zimbabwe last summer and it worked nicely for me. My M77 RSM has a pretty nice trigger in it as well so I'd be inclined toi go in that direction myself.

I have the 9.3 x 62 CZ550 Medium Lux and I love it. I've only taken 1 bear with it so far and it was a bangflop.
