Yesterday I ordered a Schultz & Larsen m69 from Tradeex.. Being a Mauser fanatic like I am, I expect it will be a lot of fun. It will be interesting to see if my eyes work well enough to make the diopter sights work.

.
Trade-Ex has some fine rifles at reasonable prices and I have found that they are fair and honest to deal with. Looks like you are going to have some fun.
.

Secret to shooting with aperture (diopter) sights is very simple: forget that the damned thing is even there!

Look THROUGH it, put your front sight where you want the bullet to go and..... squeeze off your round.

Best book ever written on shooting with aperture sights: "Shoot to Live!". Download your own copy by taking the LINK from the MKL Stickie in this forum.

Very cool rifles! My eyes aren't that great and it is easy to use for me.
I ordered some new inserts, slimline I think, for the front . They have a smaller hole than the
One my Schultz came with, and work well!

They are the anschutz ones, ordered off eBay from a Canadian seller. Free shipping and only about three bucks each. I ordered a few sizes. I can look and see if he has any more.

The sellers name is nikkonos, and they are the anschutz inserts, I think .676 or 17.2 mm inserts, show he still has some.

Figured I couldn't go wrong for a few sizes at three bucks each!

Yes, I have a few dollars to try different ones

I've being looking at these for a while now and can't wait to hear how it shoots. Did you chose a specific year, code or configuration? If they're accurate enough, I'll buy one.

i have one on hold for a while ,going to take the plunge and finally bring her home this week i think. They are nice looking rifles i would imagine they shoot pretty good with the 6.5x55 round and the schultz and larson barrel, and the heavy k98 receiver.

I just picked one, I am not well enough educated to know if any 98 is better or more desirable than any other. I picked a 1939 german 98, I will tell you how it works for me when I get it.. Being a red neck and all, my saying for accuracy is that a rifle will "cut fence wire", which I expect they will, although a friend of mine used to drive spikes with his 270. he would start a spike in a tree, and put a washer on it so he could see it at 100 yards, he claimed there was nothing like seeing a spike that you drove with a bullet..

I have bought one other from Trade Ex, and it shot very well. I expect that a rifle that Schultz and Larsen barreled and set up should work just fine.

they are built on 98 actions and are all pretty much the same, some may prefer one over another because of maker or barrel code, given that some are a little rearer than others. The pre war receivers generaly have better exterior machineing as the pace of production was slower in peace time.

I thought long and hard about buying one of these but decided to stick to my current focus.

I'm still very interested in them and can't wait to hear how it shoots.

so is that what makes them range in price, just the markings/stamping on it?

i have a SVW 45 with all waffamps in tact and matching bolt to boot its on it way will let you know how it shoots when it arrives
That's the one I was really considering. I would be interested in seeing some close ups of the bolt and receiver serials to see if the bolt is indeed the original and not post war renumbered. I have a thing for svw's and that one sounds really interesting.

will definitely post a few pics when it arrives ,also anxious to see if its the original bolt as well but shooting it is going to be the best part.

Finally received my Schultz and larson target rifle and as promised here are a few pics of it .I only fired the rifle four times and its the very first time i ever used this type of site. The four shots are from 200 yards using 140 gr winchester factory ammo,so not bad for iron site and the first time out with this rifle ,so yha im impressed this thing can shoot. Here are a few pics some are a little blurey,

yha its definitly a gew 98 bolt, it as the ww1 cartouches on the underside of the bolt handel would like to have had the bent bolt but after shooting it with the straight bolt im ok with it as is.Its a beautyfull rifle im happy with it
