The Terrace qualifers are over and I DQ'ed both days!!

Finger in the trigger both times during redimal action while the muzzle was off target!

Oh well live and learn!

That sucks, don't give up, have a bunch beer get the crap out of your system and start practicing again. I worked on my reloads at home with dummy rounds to train my fingers to stay out of the trigger guard.

1) that DQ is generally bull####, and nearly always falls to arbitration. Why? You can't be DQ'd for bad aim, and there is no rule requiring you to aim using the sights. "Your muzzle was off target" "No it wasn't. I was shooting from the hip, and I suck at it." Unless you're crossing in front of a barricade while trying to clear that malf, finger on trigger, they can't make it stick. Always call for the RM and arbitrate that DQ.

2) Get a real gun. Christ. I can't remember my last malfunction. :)

One of the nice things about being a Lefty is using your trigger finger to release the mag.

Actually, I think this is almost a curse... I also am a lefty, and I have been DQ'd during mag change (twice) because it looked like my finger was playing around the trigger (wasn't stuck straight out in obvious sight)... You can argue, but it's a case of "he said, she said", and the RO is of course 'right'.

Hmmm, try having the RO stand on your right side then and see if they consider your finger in the triggerguard during a mag change. It should be clearly obvious if it is.

To really piss them off, you could always have a buddy tape you with a camcorder. After you show them proof of your innocence a few times, they might get the point...

Cheers!

Video evidence is not admisable in Arbitration.

Put your trigger finger on the slide during remedial action, reloads, etc.

Then no one will have to worry about a DQ.

i shoot a USP, and have been warned about my trigger finger; I use my trigger finger to press the mag release. I usually tell people at larger matches how I will be activating the mag release, or if I think they may not be familiar with this type of mag release. Most lefties use their trigger finger I would think.

I am right handed and have been using my right middle finger to release my mags(ambi mag release) My trigger finger is always on the slide where it should be during a mag change and my middle finger only goes to the mag button. Works for me.

I know another guy in BC who has the mag release on the right and uses his trigger finger on the mag release. He has been dq'ed several times for finger in the trigger guard. On the other hand I know several lefty's who do just fine with their trigger finger.

My advise - practice, practice ,practice and we hope to see you in PG

Sorry to hear that Gibbs, easily tuned up for next time though:

1) Make sure your pistol and ammunition function properly and consistently.

2) Shoot as many club matches as you can between Qualifiers.

It might not be in your best interests to zoom off to another Qualifer in the next few weeks as I believe you are likely in a probationary period of one year now, another DQ in that time frame and you would probably be required to re-take the Black Badge Course. Shoot those club matches!

think about it this way... if you are not engagging the targets with your finger your finger is feeling the slide.

this should become second nature. like when you pick a gun up in the gun store.

personally i think if you are clearing any kind of jam your finger should be on the slide. especially for new IPSC shooters. don't fall victim to bad habits.

Bummer Gibbs... I just did my first qualifier and was terrified about the dreaded DQ. I was mercy warned in my first club match about that very thing. I have been practicing having my 'booger picker' clearly no where near the trigger area unless engaging targets. A much harder thing that most rec. shooters think. There is alot going on in ones mind during a match to say the least.

Keep at it bro, the more new guys like us the better imho! I look forward to meeting you at the Nationals!

Cheers bud!
