I bought a Hi-Point......

I don't find field strip and cleaning that bad. Just follow the instructions.
I've got a .40 and as others have said.. It feels like you are shooting a drill..
My Hi-point is not my go to gun but it does work

Now, give her a DeWalt paint scheme and you might be able to carry it in open public without getting bothered. Just have her in your belt together with a hammer and pliers.
(sarcasm end)
Seriously, the design is not too appealing to most,me included...but I shot one of a buddy's at the range and have to admit, It's easy to handle and hit what you're aiming for. And the torture tests seen on youtube...she can take a beating and still works. Same as a Glock, fugly but dumb dead reliable and for a 3rd of the price.
Why not?

This is exactly what comes to mind every time someone mentions a hi point.

Not that I'm interested in getting one, but who even sells these in Canada? I have never seen one in the wild, much less even seen them online by a Canadian retailer.

There was a site sponsor some 5-6, maybe 8 years ago peddling them. Probably lots in circulation via that.

I remember seriously considering one. Just couldn't get past the Dewalt Drill likeness:rolleyes:

had one in .45acp. You are in for a lot of fun, in the three yrs I owned it probably put 5-6-7 tthou rounds thru it.(I reload and make my own cast boolits) Had a couple of ftf but I think know that they were faulty reloads--mine--- Even though heavy and big always thought it had stout recoil ymmv. I never did a strip and clean, when it got real slimy looking I sprayed it down with WD40 blew it off with air spray with brakeclean blow out WD40 again and into the safe

Well it arrived today...... what a beast of a gun. Big, bulky, heavy, but still a fascinating gun.... for $200 its a hell of .45....

I personally can not wait to blast it..... and I think it may become a project/paint gun.... some cerakoting and what not....

I bought a .45ACP carbine from Prophet River during one of their sales. What a huge bag of fun for the price!!

After shooting around 300 rounds through it I thought I'd like to do a trigger job on it. After I was done I had some problems getting the bolt hold open catch spring in properly. Under normal cleaning conditions you'd never have to remove it even during a full take down. The next time at the range I got 3 mags through it before it jammed. I knocked the bolt back and forth trying to free the problem but ended up bending the firing pin. I later realized the magazine catch spring was gone and the catch was interfering with the bolt.

I called up High Point and told them I had lost the catch spring and bent the firing pin. Their warranty service was just like many of the reloading companies I've dealt with (RCBS, Hornady)

Me: I was messing with your gun trigger and I lost a spring, then at the range it jammed and bent the firing pin.
HP: No problem, we'll get those parts out to you tomorrow and because you're in Canada we'll send a few extras just in case you loose another while tinkering.
Me: O.k. Thanks, how much is shipping?
HP: No cost. Thanks for buying a High Point!

Since I put the new pin in and replaced the mag catch spring I have put about 400 rounds through without any problems. After a total of about 700 rounds, I recently noticed all three mags would sometimes not feed the last round. They're not easy to take apart and clean but I did anyway. I found the springs in the mags are rather dainty. I used to store them full in my safe. After seeing those springs I'd recommend others don't do that with their stock HP mags. I stretched the springs out and they ran fine for another range trip (50 rds) but failed again the next time. I probably should have called High Point again but thought I'd rather upgrade the springs to something more beefy anyway. Brownells had 1911 spring 10 packs that worked well although the thicker springs meant I lost a round of capacity. Now 8 rounds mags... Perhaps getting new stock springs from HP would have been better. Just this time I wouldn't store them full of rounds.

As for accessories Prophet River can likely get you whatever you'd want. Here's how mine is set up:

The extra mags and holders were from Prophet River

The red dot it a cheap optic from eBay or Amazon.ca

The charge handle is found on eBay but the seller will not ship to Canada under any conditions. It's really just a bushing so I had it shipped to a someone I knew in the US who removed the packaging and shipped it up to me listed as a Bike bushing.

There's also these guys but I've never tried to get anything through them.

I removed the front sight to clear the view for the red dot. It's been far more fun to shoot then I expected. I'm really quite happy with it. I suspect your pistol will provide years of excellent service and once you get to learn how to shoot with a High Point trigger, any decent pistol will be easy to shoot like a true master!!! ;)
