I bought a Norinco JW-15A Compact

Today I bought a Norinco JW 15 A Compact with money I got from selling my 10/22. I was excited about this rifle and some may remember my thread asking users to compare it and the Stevens 300 SBR. I have a few issues with my new rifle

1. While cleaning off the grease, I washed off a lot of bluing in hot water, dawn soap, and then spraying with some outers Crud Cutter. Lame.
2. I can't get the action out of the stock. The front screw is so tight I literally can't get it out and have begun to strip the screw. That's not good because there's a lot of water set between the stock and action. I wish I could get it out so I could wipe it dry.
3. This bolt is in ****ing ROUGH shape. Bluing is rubbed to hell and back. It's a Norinco so I expected it, but geeezus. I don't expect off coloured metal in the white where bluing has rubbed away...on a new firearm at least. The screw that holds in the trigger guard is also in rough shape, it doesn't actually look like it was finished...

I'm going to borrow some tools from my grandfather to try to get this screw out, will probably need to hammer the screwdriver. This is literally the tightest screw I have ever seen in my life. First impression: not great. If anyone could give me any tips on this thing, I would greatly appreciate it.

EDIT: I just noticed the rear irons are off center, I'm returning the rifle

Thanks to support from Bell Outdoors and my local dealer, I went through three rifles until I got one with a straight barrel (24" version). Al three would group in one hole, but I had to drive the rear sight to the left where it was about to fall out of the dovetail (not an exageration), and when I mounted a scope, I ran out of windage and could not adjust. Bell got their gunsmith to find one that shot where it was pointed, when I got it I did the usual cleaning, honing and polishing, and the bolt now runs like an Anschutz, and it puts every bullet in the same hole with good ammo. It was a long road, but it is a shooter and a keeper!

I had an Em-322 and it was superb. I have a Norc muzzleloader built on a Mauser 98 action and it is pretty good, and I have a little side by each 12 ga. with 12" barrels and I've had 0 issues with any of them.

I also have an EM322; it is finished way better than Savage, Mossburg, and Ruger; it is the only Norinco that I have never had to touch other than to replace the coarse sights and bed the barrel (lose in stock). It too is a tack driver.

FWIW, the 25-round "CZ-512" mag has been a (for now) total feeding-disappointment for me in the JW-15A compact.

It's my understanding that they can be a bit disappointing in the CZ as well. I would be happy to find another 5 shot mag for my JW; big enough and it does not protrude and catch on stuff.

I bought the Kar98 lookalike (22lr) and this thing is accurate. 5 shots into a dime at 25 yards with the junky red dot it came with of course the safety doesn’t work. This pleasant surprise works as the perfect beater,no crying over a scratched stock

Sorry, but bigot means that the person is intolerant of people who hold a different opinion. As usual in todays society, it is being thrown around without people knowing how to use it. Same with xenophobic.

The person was generalizing, funny or not but wasnt being a racist or bigot or xenophobe.

Exactly - and if you're going to do that it's best to stick with an ethnic group with thicker skin, like the Irish - it's never inappropriate to take shots at the Irish, but given that they don't care, you never get PC whining as a response.

I wonder if the 25-round CZ magazine would feed well with that....

The only gun Norinco makes that is nice is the SKS. I have had a few of their 22's and are reasonably accurate but crude.Norinco can make a good gun if they want, but are trying to capture the low end market.

I think it's safe to say that they have captured and indeed own the low end market...... :)
Most of the issues are cosmetic and from time to time a lemon, but for guys that like to tinker and re-finish guns they are great value for the most part.

The 1911's are a great value for what we pay for them.

As is the NZ and the NP sig clones. They all need a bit of tuning though.

Lol Im just jumping in to say I doubt all of this. (bold and underlined statements)

A very uncool & racist statement. No longer funny

If you have come to love it as per your previous post, I assume that it shoots OK?

May I respectfully suggest a brief range report to be fair? Your OP was quite negative and if the guns performance has changed your mind, a range report from you regarding its performance might be edifying for all who have followed this thread.

I'll be on it tomorrow!

Quick review:

The rifle is accurate, and reasonably well made. My main complaints:

Good god there's a lot of cosmoline in this thing when you get it. I stupidly tried to wash it out in my bathtub and it stained it, so now I think I have to get it refinished or something. Awesome, I love it when my stupidity costs me money. Basically, because of this fVck up I have the most expensive norinco ever, if you factor in what it'll cost to fix the tub.

The front sight is unusually thick. I had to file it down to get it to a reasonable level. Seriously, that front sight post is thicker than an SKS and with an even shorter sight radius, almost completely obscures the target. Also, the rear sight need to be able to be set higher, my rifle kept on shooting low unless it was at the very highest setting.

The mags at first, for the 9 (why they don't hold 10 is some bizarre reason beyond me) round ones, do not feed properly, but after you use them a bit they do.

The bluing on the gun is deep, but also somehow washes off...it's really, really weird. Like it's both deep bluing and nice, and *****.

Reassembling the gun, if you took the action out of the stock is a total PITA. The holes in the stock don't really line up with the corresponding holes in the action so getting it in there is super difficult and infuriating.

Overall I love the gun. It's certainly overbuilt. I haven't mounted a scope yet, and even with thinned down irons, you really only want to accuracy test this gun with a scope. More to come on that front.
